I am a HUGE fan of any kind of cobbler. Apple, cherry, peach; you name it, and I’ll eat it. However, much to my amazement, I had no idea that cobblers could also be made with savory ingredients like chicken, veggies, and gravy. When I came across this recipe, it kind of blew my hair back a bit.

 

Who would have thought that my dream of eating cobbler for dinner would ever come true? After all, mama always said that dessert came after you cleaned your plate, right? Well, mama will be pleased to know that this chicken cobbler is the main course of my meal! Guys, I’m really excited about this one, and you should be too!

    The Italians are best known for their pasta dishes, but they can make a lovely rice dish or two, as well! This Sweet Potato Risotto is a delicious variant on a classic North Italian home recipe. It is such gourmet flavor in just a few easy steps. People in America may think of risotto as a dish for fine-dining restaurants, but it has its origins in comfort food cooking for the home. A big part of its appeal is that it makes for a highly variable template for most any flavor combination that you want.

     

    Most people also think making risotto is difficult. It certainly isn’t! I used to think so, too, before I finally decided to give it a try. In my opinion, the secret is in the splash of white wine. It brings in such an incredible flavor that people will thing you’ve hired a professional chef to do all the cooking for you!

    Here’s a Really Quick And Easy Formula For a Tasty Meal!

    I am so in love with slow cooker recipes right now! With all the big family gatherings and huge dinner preparations lately, it’s such a relief to just throw a bunch of ingredients into the crockpot and let it do all the work instead.

    Not that I don’t enjoy cooking – I really do, but sometimes other things in life just get in the way. If you want a hearty, “meat and potatoes” sort of meal, this Cheesy Potato, Bean, and Beef Casserole is a great choice. The slow cooker does most of the work for you, with only a very modest amount of prep required. This would also make a wonderful addition to your next BBQ party. It’s filling, warming comfort food, made really easy with the Crock-Pot. Heck, how can you go wrong with just seven ingredients (plus water, salt, and pepper) and four easy steps?

    One of the great things about most “Southern comfort” dinner items is that you don’t have to use really expensive ingredients to make a great meal. I have always admired people from the South – it seems they can grab just a few basic ingredients, throw them together and create unbelievable, mind-blowing results! This was one of the first Southern dishes I tried and it was a great one for a beginner. The gravy really does about make itself (with the help of a little cornstarch). It’s a great midweek meal idea.

    Just six ingredients, plus salt and pepper, and you can have these Beef Tips With Rice and Gravy on your dinner table. And at 10 minutes to prep and an hour to cook, it’s not back-breaking or really time-consuming to put together. This has been one of my favorite recipes ever since I tried it, and I’m pretty sure it’ll stay in my box of favorites forever!

    As far as easy comfort food goes, particularly for the cooler months of the year, it’s hard to beat a good, savory soup. This Easy Taco Soup has a hearty flavor to it, and after a bit of prep,  the slow cooker does the rest of the work for you.

     

    After making my second batch of spaghetti meat sauce for the season not too long ago, I was looking for something a little different. (Don’t get me wrong; I love the spaghetti sauce recipe that I adapted from what Mother used to make, but I do like to mix things up, and it would be a shame to get bored with something like that.)  This soup recipe keeps it really easy and low-hassle, and it has some of that Southwestern flavor in which I like to indulge, now and then.

    Casseroles are great for convenience, and chicken pot pie is classic, soothing comfort food, particularly during the cooler months. This Chicken Pot Pie brings together convenience and comfort nicely, and it even sports a savory Bacon Cheddar Biscuit topping to make the dish out-of-this-world delicious! Who could resist all these beautiful flavors in such an easy-to-cook form!

     

    I’ve always liked chicken pot pie, though I’ve always had to go for the top of the line Marie Callender’s ones if I settled for store-bought, and even those are kind of lean, for how much you pay for them. This casserole is much more filling than the usual store-bought options, not to mention being in a bit more of a family-friendly form and having a nice upgrade over the usual basic crust.

    This Dirty Rice is quick and easy Southern soul food at its finest. It makes in just 35 minutes and four easy steps–great for a hectic weeknight dinner. I could eat dirty rice most any time of year, but it is particularly good when the weather is turning cooler and you want something that will fill you up right without much hassle or time investment. And it is just piquant enough to excite your palate without coming anywhere close to setting your mouth on fire.

     

    If you want the full Southern “soul food” experience, I do recommend cooking this with the bacon grease. That bacon flavor can work wonders with many a recipe, and it gives the recipe a more filling, savory kick. If you want a bit of a lighter-tasting dish, however, or if you need to watch your cholesterol, go with the olive oil.
