I love a good salad.  One of my favorite places to eat is the salad bar in town, allowing my to pick and choose the toppings I’m going to pile on top.  It’s delicious!  Adding a good mixture of crunchy and chewy toppings, along with a zip of sweet or salty makes the salad just perfect for consumption.

The only thing better than a perfectly executed salad is a perfectly executed dip based on…. a salad.  I know!  A dip that’s based on a salad totally blew my mind!  I wasn’t expecting this twist when I found this recipe, but after I made it, I knew my salad life would never be the same again.  This dip is perfect to share with friends and family as it will be the star of the show.  It’s a recipe that’s different, but still delicious!

Pork chops usually don’t show up in a casserole. But this one has them and will quickly become a favorite with the family. It’s easy to put together and tastes delicious.

This would be the perfect casserole to serve on a cold winter night. But you don’t have to wait for winter. This will also work any other time of the year. And because it uses canned soup, it whips up fast and easy. A big draw of this dish is that it has a crunchy topping which adds additional flavor.

Donuts are a great companion to coffee. These old fashioned style ones are just perfect. They are easy to hold and bake up easily using an eclair pan.

Who doesn’t love donuts? Everyone loves donuts. These are the real old fashioned kind that Grandma used to make. And since these are in stick form, they are perfect for dunking in your coffee. They will remind you of a crueller with their crusty outside and dense and chewy inside.

My husband absolutely loves cabbage.  It’s hard to find good cabbage recipes, though.  It’s a great veggie that’s inexpensive, but how many times can you make cole slow without looking like that’s the only thing you can make with cabbage?  That’s what I was really glad to find this recipe.  This stuffed cabbage was such a twist on what I normally make, and yet it was a really fun recipe to prepare.

This recipe was fun to make with the kids, and really inexpensive to put together.  I loved that the cabbage came out super soft.  The mixture is a salty, delicious filling that made my reach back for more after my first serving was done.  And because it wasn’t too different than what they are normally used to, my kids enjoyed the rolls as well!

When I was a kid, I heard a lot about what it was like to live in the depression.  It clearly was really hard, and people had to make do with what they had.  For many, they didn’t have enough food for their whole family to be full, so moms got creative in the kitchen.  I’ve heard of some mothers making themselves “Dandelion Soup” while feeding their little ones the hearty meals.

So while there’s clearly a lot of sacrifice that took place back in the depression, there’s also a lot of fond memories.  My grandmother tells me that while they didn’t have much, they spent lots of time together as a family.  She recalls playing games with her family and snuggling together under one big blanket because they couldn’t afford anything to keep their home warm.  This goulash recipe brings back fond memories of her family times.
