Betty Crocker Devils Food Cake Mix, caramel candies, Chocolate cupcakes, Daisy sour cream, eggs, Hershey’s mini chocolate chips, Jell-O instant chocolate pudding, Land O lakes heavy cream, land o lakes unsalted butter, McArthur milk, salted caramel cupcakes, vanilla, Wesson vegetable oil

I love a good combination of flavors. Whether that is spicy and mild, a lot of flavor mixed with none at all, chocolate and mint, chocolate and peanut butter or sweet and salty, I love everything that combines two opposites. The most common one I have found is salty and sweet. It is something that I barely ever remember seeing as a kid, but it has been booming these days. Everywhere you turn, there is salty and sweet something – which is cool and a little strange all at the same time.

I am all for trying new foods but only when I think it really is going to be good. I was not sure that was a possibility when I was first introduced to salted caramel cupcakes so I didn’t give them a chance. However, all my friends who tried them said they were amazing, so I knew I had to try them, after all. When I went back for on, they were gone! But the girl who made them gave me her recipe so I went home and got cooking. The result was a fun, rich and chocolatey cupcake filled with caramel and then dusted with a light coating of salt. It is so interesting and yet so delicious!

My sister and I love to create awesome recipes that involve crescent rolls. We have made so many different kinds from stuffing them with Nutella and bananas (just like our favorite French crepe!) to filling it with marshmallows and chocolate to create a s’mores sandwich, and even just putting a handful of Ghirardelli chocolate chips inside to resemble a French chocolate pastry. I promise you, every single time we do this, we absolutely love it! We love finding new ways to make desserts with crescents because not only are they delicious, but they are so easy, too!

Our latest creation was a cinnamon roll inside a crescent. We wanted cinnamon rolls so badly, but could not go out to get any so we decided to make our own at home. We did not want to spend lots of time creating a recipe that takes to long to make, so instead we popped a can of crescent rolls and then got to work creating the perfect cinnamon roll. We added lots of brown sugar and cinnamon with a tad of butter. Then, after they were baked, we made a glaze with butter and powdered sugar and drizzled it over the crescents. My oh my, they were just wonderful. Truly our best crescent creation to date!

When we were little, my cousins who were a couple of years older than me would come over often. Since we lived with my grandma, they would come over to visit with her, but always ended up staying longer to play with me and my sisters. We would play with dollhouses indoors, scooters outdoors, or fill up our plastic pool with water and take a little swim. It was so much fun and we have so many awesome memories.

The best part about those days is that they always ended the same: with cookies. My mom and aunt would get in the kitchen and bake us our favorites: frosted oatmeal cookies. We always loved their oatmeal cookies more than anyone else’s because they added that detail of frosting them that we had never tried anywhere else. It gave it an extra dose of sugar which I am sure they knew we did not need, but they did it for us because we loved them so much. Well, time has passed, my cousins do not visit as often, I am married and not living at home anymore, and so many other things have changed. But still, once every couple of months, we all get together and bond over frosted oatmeal cookies.

Every year, a couple of days before Thanksgiving, my family heads out to find our Christmas tree. Yeah, I know it is pretty early, but we like to enjoy it as long as possible (even if that means it is practically dead on Christmas day…whoops!). We set out (all eight of us, mind you!) in our family car and stop at different locations looking for the perfect tree (mom’s idea) at the perfect price (dad’s idea). When we have found the right tree, we load her up and head on home.

From there, we go into the garage and pull out all of the decorations for it. At this point, it is usually my mom stringing the lights, my dad sitting on the couch watching her and then the rest of us girls in the kitchen. Wanna know what we are doing? Stirring away making an incredible hot chocolate. Now, every year it is a process. It takes time to prepare that hot chocolate and make it just perfect. That is why I am just thrilled to bring you this recipe for Crock Pot hot chocolate. Now what we do is put this in the slow cooker a few hours before we head out and when we return, it is good to go and we can all help decorate the tree. It really is so much better!
