Everyone I Know Is Crazy About This Fantastic Cake!

The older I get, the faster the years seem to fly by. It’s hard to believe we only have a couple of days of this year left – even though it seems like it was just a couple of months ago that I was shouting “Happy New Year!” It seems, when you’re young, you can’t wait to grow up as fast as possible. And when you’re getting old, you wish you could go back to being a kid again. Haha!

When it comes to New Year’s resolutions, I’ve decided not to waste a moment of my life anymore. What that means to me is that I will try and spend my time doing what I think is important, instead of spending those precious hours and days on things that don’t matter to me.

Ok, well maybe baking cakes isn’t that big of an issue for me but I still don’t want to spend too much time making them. That’s why I love recipes like this one from TheCulinarycorner! Very basic ingredients, very little preparation, yet a very awesome result!

I Could Eat This Every Single Day For The Rest Of My Life

There is something about vintage recipes that makes them stand out. Even though most of them are make-from-scratch kind of dishes, the end result is always such a huge success that it’s worth the extra few minutes of prep work. For example, there is no cake mix involved in this German apple cake recipe that I found on Pastry Heaven. And no store-bought icing, either. Maybe that’s why this turned out so delicious, I almost swallowed my tongue, gobbling up the first piece.

Everything on the ingredient list is very basic, everyday stuff – funny how it’s like that with all the old-fashioned recipes, isn’t it? There’s nothing fancy, yet, they turn out stupendous.

Shandy, over at Pastry Heaven, mentioned this recipe came from her friend’s 90-year-old mother. I love how the best recipes are passed on from generation to generation! I also keep wondering why the German recipes always seem to be the tastiest ones. I ought to move to Germany! My only concern is, I would probably gain 40 pounds in 6 months, thanks to my great appetite.

I Can’t Pronounce The Name Of These Cookies But They Are DELISH

Many years ago I spent two weeks in Germany, traveling around the country with a group of friends. I know most people think of Oktoberfest when you mention you’ve been to Germany, but we weren’t there for the beer. To us, it was all about the food! I knew I liked German food, based on dishes I had enjoyed back home already – but when we were actually there, everything was even more delicious!

Somehow I had this thought in my mind that I would mostly be eating different kinds of sausages and really good bread. I wasn’t expecting to fall in love with German sweet treats, but I did. The pfeffernusse cookies!

I still don’t know how to pronounce it correctly but I can tell you these spice cookies are amazing. I think these are traditionally holiday cookies, but I’m planning on making these all year long. They’re way too tasty to be made once a year only!

Would You Pick One Or Make a Combination Of All 3 Of Them?

It’s always the same thing for me when it comes to holiday meals.

I start planning really early, to make sure there is no last minute panic. But then I simply find way too many great recipes and I start rethinking my choices. After about 3 weeks of hopping back and forth between ten different recipes, my husband picks one for me. I know, it’s sad!

But this year I don’t have to rethink anything. This sweet potato casserole recipe that I found on Recipes For Our Daily Bread is brilliant. Basically, you get an awesome sweet potato casserole with three topping options in one! We all have that favorite topping we like better than others, so now you can make something for everyone.

I actually can’t believe I hadn’t thought of this myself. This is great for anyone like me, who are having a hard time deciding what to serve at Christmas dinner!

When Was The Last Time You Enjoyed This Old-Fashioned Dessert?

A couple of years ago I met a lady at the church and she told me about a dessert I had never heard of. It was such a huge shock to her that I had never tried apple dumplings, and she decided we needed to fix it immediately. She invited me over to her house the next day, to have a cup of coffee and “enjoy the best dessert on the face of the earth”. How could I say no to that?

When she opened the door, immediately I noticed that her whole house smelled amazing. It was like walking into my grandmother’s kitchen again – that wonderful aroma of apples and cinnamon, baking in the oven, was enough to make my mouth water. And when I finally saw the apple dumplings, I knew she hadn’t exaggerated. They looked so delicious!

She served the dumplings with the creamiest scoop of vanilla ice cream I had ever tasted (I wish I had asked what brand it was) and a cup of strong, flavorful coffee. I literally thought I had died and gone to heaven, it was so amazing!

This Dessert Turns Any Dinner Into a Festive Occasion

I think this amazing crumble should be mandatory at every family gathering, holiday meal and special occasion. Ever since my sister gave me this recipe I have been trying to find excuses to make this twice a week. Not that I would really need an excuse to make a mind-blowing dessert, but I kinda feel guilty for always eating half the batch myself.

Over the years I’ve tried various crumbles; some have turned out amazing, some – not so much. The first time I was making this I knew by the aromas alone that this was going to be a winner. My whole family loved it so much, they almost had a fight over the last portion!

There is one ingredient that I think makes all the difference in the flavor, and that’s the candied ginger. I hadn’t used that in crumbles before so I had my doubts about it. It turned out delicious! I am definitely going to be making a double batch of this stuff over the holidays!

I Could Eat That Praline Topping With A Spoon!

I will never forget Thanksgiving dinners at our house, as they were quite the extravagant event while I was growing up.

We had so many family members and friends packed into our house for hours and hours. People would always stay for lunch and dinner, both. My favorite part of this food fest were the incredible desserts, and there were always many. I especially loved the pumpkin pie! My mom would make the best one on the planet. She always served hers with some whipped cream and each slice was better than the next.

The other day I was browsing my friends’ Facebook pages for some pumpkin pie recipes that might differ from the classic versions. I came across this adorable pumpkin pie with pecan praline topping, and I couldn’t be happier! This pie looks so stunning. And guess what? It tastes like a dream come true.
