There’s Nothing Like Homemade Cake – And We’ve Got 6 Of Them

When it comes to dessert, I’ll take a big slice of cake over ice cream or ambrosia salad, anytime! Nothing wrong with creamy desserts; I just happen to think a delicious cake is a wonderful way to end a meal. I am a big fan of vintage recipes, so I decided to ask my mother for her favorite old-fashioned cakes. She has a collection of so many great recipes, that even a so-so baker like me will learn how to make cake for any occasion!

Originally she brought me 20 cake recipes (yes, twenty!) but I thought I’d start with a little less than that… I mean, making 20 delicious cakes in a row would mean I would have to buy a pair of new jeans, haha! But I truly think these awesome cakes are worth a few extra calories.

Mom said she had found some of these in grandma’s handwritten cookbook, and I do remember how she always served different kinds of delicious cakes when I visited her as a little girl. I hope some day my future grandchildren will think of me when they enjoy these cakes!

scalloped potatoes

Grandma had been hiding her famous scalloped potato recipe from us for decades and then… grandma passed away.

Are you curious as to what that twist may be? Well, I’ll tell you: ham! These scalloped spuds are made just like your mother or granny would make them except that ham is also in the mix. Talk about a yummy addition! The chunky ham adds so much flavor and texture to the dish that you can easily eat it as an entree instead of a side. I am seriously considering making these spuds during the holidays. They would make an excellent addition to Easter dinner. The recipe says to use russet potatoes but feel free to use any variety that you have on hand or prefer.

This recipe is for the oven but you can easily make these yummy scalloped potatoes in your slow cooker, too. I’ve tried it before and they turn out quite nice. However, you won’t get that browned layer on top like you would if cooked in the oven.

Quick Tip: If you don’t like ham you can easily omit it from this recipe…but who doesn’t like ham?

Dad usually wakes up on the wrong side of the bed but one morning, mama made overnight breakfast casserole and everything changed.

Are you too tired in the morning to deal with the hassle of breakfast? If so, you’ve stopped by the right recipe!

The delicious recipe that awaits you on the next page is for an overnight breakfast casserole using all those yummy and healthy goodies that you can find at the local farmer’s market. Don’t have a farmer’s market near you? No problem! The grocery store will work just fine. Personally, I like to use the veggies from my garden and the eggs that my lovely hens give me in this casserole.

You’ll Make These Fast And Devour Them Even Faster!

It seems to me people are always in a hurry these days, or maybe it’s just the way things are at our house… That’s where 30-minute recipes, such as these, come in handy!

I would love to serve homemade meals every single day but sometimes it’s just totally impossible to find time for cooking. My crock pot has become my best friend lately – thanks to it I haven’t had to opt for takeout, every day of the week! But occasionally I really feel like making something for my family, without using the slow cooker.

And that’s when I move to the opposite direction; instead of slow cooking, I find recipes that can be made really fast! I’ve written all of these down in a separate little cookbook that I titled “Super Quick Recipes”. Not a very fancy title, huh? At least it’s accurate!

Whether you’re looking to make an appetizer, dinner or dessert, there’s a recipe for that on this list. You can make all of these in 30 minutes (or less) but I guarantee it won’t take that long for them to disappear! What is your favorite, quick-to-make recipe? I’d love to read about it, in the comment section below!

7 easy recipes chicken broccoli alfredo casserole

One does not simply have a single serving of chicken broccoli alfredo casserole.

When it comes to weeknight meal planning I am often a pro. I love to meal plan because it makes life so much easier and it also saves a ton of money at the grocery store. But, then there are those times where I completely forget to make my meal plan and my weekly suppers are bombed with crappy meals. In the summer, we usually grill out and have hamburgers and hot dogs but you can’t feed your family that every single day. So, bakes like chicken broccoli alfredo casserole are a real life saver. They are easy to make and I usually have all of the ingredients on hand.

If you are into making easy meals that are nutritious and filling then you are going to love this chicken broccoli alfredo casserole recipe on the next page.

My Mother Told Me These Have Been Her Favorites Since She Was A Little Girl

Last week I was struggling, trying to decide what dessert to make for my best friend’s baby shower. She loves all things old-fashioned, so I knew I wasn’t going to make a fancy, modern treat. Not that there’s anything wrong with those – and I’m sure she and everyone attending the shower would have loved any kind of dessert! But I still wanted to choose from classic dessert recipes, instead.

I have a pretty impressive collection of old and new dessert recipes but the problem was, there were too many to choose from! So I did what any woman would do when facing tough times; I turned to my mother. I asked what her favorite dessert recipe was when she was little.

I’m not sure if she actually helped me make a decision or not, since she came up with seven that she thought were equally amazing. Thanks, Mom… Well, I finally decided to settle on two desserts; #6 and #3 on this list. My best friend loved them both, and I got so many requests for the recipes that I decided to put together this list for all of you!

7 easy recipes creamy chicken macaroni salad

When it comes to creamy chicken macaroni salad my family is crawling with people who go crazy for the stuff.

Seriously, we can’t have a picnic or family dinner without creamy chicken macaroni salad. Now, the way I learned to make mac salad was with a more savory sauce as that’s the way we midwesterners do it. However, my darling husband is from Pennsylvania and the way folks over yonder make mac sauce is with a ton of sugar.

I don’t particularly like this method. Ok, I HATE this method lol! So, I needed to come up with a compromise to appease both of our tastes. Plus, I now live in PA so whenever I make macaroni salad it better have sugar in it or nobody will eat it haha!

This recipe I am sharing with you all today is for creamy chicken macaroni salad. I really don’t care if you are a savory or sweet mac salad lover you are going to chow this salad down so quickly that you won’t even have time to burp.

Quick Tip: I like to toss in some broccoli and cauliflower florets from time to time when making this salad.
