This Old Recipe Is Yummier Than A Dozen New Ones Combined!

What is it about old and traditional recipes that make them always turn out so delicious? I mean, we’re still using the same ingredients for baking these days, right? But somehow it always feels like any recipe that goes way back, decades even, always tastes best. And I’m not just talking about my grandmother’s recipes – just the fact that she was my grandmother might make those desserts even more delightful to me.

This is one of those cakes that is very traditional; nothing fancy, nothing complicated, just an incredibly delicious cake. Oh, and caramel. Ok I’ll have to admit – that caramel is to die for and it is totally fancy!! If you really want to make an impression, you’ll serve a slice of this with a scoop of vanilla bean ice cream – trust me, you won’t regret it!

But the ingredient list doesn’t hold any massive surprises. And still, you’re going to end up with a cake that’ll blow your hair back, the minute you sink your teeth into it. Don’t believe me? Well, go right ahead and give it a try yourself!

Quick Tip: If you’d like to freeze this cake for later, don’t add the caramel. Instead, add it when you’re about to serve the cake.

I Love It, You’ll Love It, Everyone Loves It!

I am a laid back, countryside kind of girl at heart, but occasionally I love to get a feel for “the city life”. I’m so used to small town living that whenever I visit a bigger place, I always find something new and fascinating. All the cafes, the traffic, the amount of people – I like to just sit down and watch everyone and everything go by. And that’s exactly what I was doing when I had my first ever slice of New York style white pizza.

Certain foods and flavors always give me a flashback, and this type of pizza is one of them. Whenever I make this at home, I remember that moment in the city – I even remember some of the people I saw crossing the street, having an argument or kissing each other goodbye.

These days I like this white pizza even better than any of your regular ones, with tomato sauce. In my opinion, this is a lot easier to make, too! It doesn’t take long to whip up one (or two, or three) of these and have a great dinner with your family or friends.

Make Room For Awesome – This Cake Will Pamper Your Taste Buds

My children and I were talking about our weaknesses the other day. I was trying to explain that I believe some weaknesses are meant to be overcome, some are actually more like unique features of character instead of weaknesses – and some are just here to stay, with no help in sight! By that I was referring to my weakness for chocolate. The kids thought it was really funny because they know how crazy I am about anything chocolate.

There was a time in my life when I thought it was wrong or bad to consume as much chocolate as I am, and I tried my best not to! But it was just horrible… I felt bad for eating chocolate, and then I felt bad for not eating it. I decided it’s nobody’s business and that I could eat all the chocolate in the world if I wanted to!

Surprisingly, that decision has actually helped me eat less chocolate than before. But I do have 1-2 days every week when I either buy or make something super chocolaty and yummy. This jaw-dropping cake is one of my favorites!

My kids are crazy about these!

I love making side dishes during the holidays and I always think the sides are the best part of the meal. However, it often saddens me that we only make these yummy side dishes once a year! When I first came across this recipe for creamy parmesan potatoes I immediately thought it’s not going to be just a Christmas dish in our house! And you know what? As soon as I served these to my family, they all said the same thing. So these are now in our dinner rotation!

Of course, I’ll still make some classic mashed potatoes every now and then! But these creamy parmesan potatoes are so good, I wouldn’t mind having them twice a week. I made these again the other night. We had pork chops, applesauce, and these yummy taters. I was amazed at how much creamier they are versus traditional mashed potatoes. It must be the cheese!

I would be happy to have just these for dinner! If you want to do that, just add some cooked, ground beef into these and you’re good to go!

The Easiest Homemade Ice Cream Ever

Every other year, or so, we like to travel with a small group of our best friends. There’s nothing better than enjoying a fun, sunny vacation with great people, learning about new cultures and taking a break from your everyday life.

One of the things I love most about our trips is that we get to try all kinds of exotic dishes. I love finding new spices and flavors that I can later incorporate into our dinner routine at home. I often bring home spice mixes and recipes I’ve received from the locals – it’s a wonderful way to look back and remember all the people you got to know during your vacation.

This recipe is originally from Peru! I haven’t been there myself but a friend of mine has, and she said this was the most delicious ice cream she ever had in her life. To be exact, this is a parfait, but we call it the Peruvian ice cream in our family. Everyone loves it!

You can tweak the recipe to your taste and possible food allergies – for example I’ve tried soy cream instead of regular heavy cream, for a friend who is lactose intolerant. The best part is, you don’t need an ice cream machine to make this!

I only ever consider a day my “alone time” if my cellphone doesn’t buzz with calls regarding my work. And that only ever happens during a holiday. However, this week, I was able to get two days off and I was truly happy! I woke up really late and spent all morning lounging in bed. I walked around the house with my pajamas and my disheveled hair. And I watched TV all day long. The only thing I have ever spent effort to during my alone time was to bake these really delicious basil crackers.

I found this recipe a long time ago, but it was only a few days ago when I was able to try it. It’s a bit easier to make than most breads and it smelled so good too! You can buy this at the store, but nothing could compare to homemade crackers, believe me. Just the smell alone was different. This smelled so good most especially while they were baking. When I took them out of the oven, the whole house was filled with their aroma. It relaxed me a bit too. I spent the next free day munching on these beauties and I have no regrets! Check out the recipe on the next page!

I tolerate nightmares as long as they don’t involve me abandoning the juiciest sausage or the most aromatic pasta. I am a food lover, and having to leave that scrumptious piece of dish just because a mad man is chasing after me is unforgivable. So far though, even with all my weird dreams, there was never a time that I dreamed of such a horrifying event. Dad isn’t so lucky. When I went to visit them a week ago, Mom told me this hilarious story about Dad not wanting to eat potatoes and broccoli for a month because of his dream. Since Dad wasn’t at home when I arrived, I was able to hear the full story without his protest.

Mom said Dad woke up one night and immediately went to the kitchen to drink a glass of water. Worried, Mom went after him only to find him blushing when asked what was wrong. The dream was about him eating potato wedges and steamed broccoli. Soon, the potato wedges were chasing him with knives in their hands. He saw an opening to escape, but he was blocked by giant broccoli florets. Dad woke up before he was turned into a dinner dish. I was laughing so hard that I couldn’t keep a straight face in front of him when he arrived. Mom cooked potatoes with broccoli for dinner that night just to tease him further. While I enjoyed the simple but delicious meal, I enjoyed even more watching Dad’s attempt to give us a silent treatment.
