This is a classic southern white sheet cake with chocolate fudge frosting. My Grandmother in Mississippi used to make a cake very similar to this to bring to the church potluck on Sunday’s. It was always everyone’s favorite cake!

One of the key ingredients to keep that southern flavor is the light corn syrup. Whenever I can taste a hint of it I automatically think of a southern dessert! When I was a kid I had a friend whose mother used to make the icing a little differently. Instead of corn syrup she added strong, black coffee. It was one of the best cakes I’ve ever tasted so if you want to go ahead and experiment with new flavors, use coffee! This cake is sure to be a hit with your family or its also great for a potluck or a tailgate.
