Cinnamon buns are my favorite things to eat with coffee.

Whenever we go on a road trip, I always ask my husband to pass by our favorite bakery. I will buy a couple of boxes of cinnamon buns and two cups of coffee along with a small cup of hot chocolate for our kids. Our road trips won’t be complete without us munching on cinnamon buns. My husband could eat at least three while driving; me feeding him never deterred him.

Cinnamon buns are our childhood favorites. Grandma always made them for us so we could have special snacks in the afternoon. She also always served us fresh cow’s milk with it.

I have tried a lot of cinnamon buns with different types of frosting. I am a fan of the classic though- I will always love cinnamon bun with cream cheese on top. It’s my weakness, actually.

This cinnamon bun recipe from The Joy of Everyday Cooking gives another version to cinnamon buns. There is an addition to the regular batter, which makes these buns extra special. Can you guess what’s the secret ingredient- oh yes, sweet potatoes.

The sweet potatoes add that texture that you never noticed cinnamon buns might need. It also adds a slightly different flavor that just brings out the natural taste of the buns. You should make this for your family- just head on over to the next page for the complete list of ingredients and instructions.

Do you sometimes wonder how unlikely ingredients result in a mind-blowing recipe that you can never forget?

Like you know they taste good when eaten individually, but as together- unlikely. I read a lot of cookbooks and a lot of recipes, and I do wonder sometimes. How did the original cooks of these particular recipes know what ingredients to put together? Did they test the ingredients or was it all an accident? Some recipes contain ingredients that you will not imagine together, yet the end results taste good.

For example, pot roast with fruity glazes. Whenever I make pot roasts and use those fruity glazes to coat the meat, I wonder how in the world it was “invented”. Was there a particular reason why fruit was a candidate for the glaze or the cook just accidentally used cranberry for example because he thought it was something else?

Oh yes; I was thinking about all of those while writing this. The recipe that I am about to share with you has a few ingredients that you wouldn’t have imagined together. This recipe is called sweet potatoes with chicken.

Now don’t get me wrong; it’s not impossible to put them all together. It’s just that when you think about it, it’s really the unlikely trio. This dish from Shockingly Delicious proves us all wrong though- it’s one amazing dish that speaks to perfection.

My favorite part of Thanksgiving is eating!

Anyone agree with me? I mean I can’t be the only one that loves to divulge in a delicious, hearty Thanksgiving meal. I love this holiday because there are so many foods that you typically make only one dish per meal, all at one table at the same time! So many yummy choices that you have to figure out how you are going to fit it all on your plate.

You’ve got turkey, green bean casserole, mashed potatoes, stuffing, cranberry sauce, corn, homemade biscuits, and my absolute favorite, sweet potato casserole. I could eat this delicious side dish all year around. In fact, I tend to make it as a side dish a couple of times a month. My family loves it too.

This recipe is a little different than the normal. No marshmallows here! Instead, you have a sweet, nutty, and crunchy topping that takes this dish from good to great! This recipe is so delicious that it is addicting. Who needs only mashed potatoes when you have sweet potatoes in the house. Once you try this recipe, there is no going back to the old way!

Have you ever wanted to really wow your friends and family with your baking skills?

I know that I personally can make a real mean cake but the problem is, the presentation can be slightly boring. So, when I came across this very easy gingerbread cake, I got excited! I mean, just look at it. Isn’t it pretty? I opted to use the sparkling cranberries and mint leaf because they added a touch of class to this amazing baked good. I think this delicious gingerbread cake will look pretty darn classy sitting on my holiday table. Don’t you?

This cake is extra special because it contains pumpkin and gingerbread together. You get the best of both worlds! Plus, the spiced cream cheese frost is uh-mazing. I can’t even praise it enough!

Ever wanted to enjoy the flavors of a gingerbread cookie in another form?

Yeah, I haven’t either. Gingerbread cookies are perfect just the way they are. Haha, But anyway, there is a way to get all the flavors of a gingerbread and more in one cake. It is absolutely delicious and I mean, who doesn’t love a poke cake?! This cake is all the gingerbread goodness that we know and love infused with caramel sauce and other delicious goodness. My neighbor Anne makes this poke cake every year for her family for Thanksgiving. But she is so kind to always make an extra cake for me and my family.

Everyone around here knows her as the poke cake lady and they love her even without ever having met her because of this amazing cake. Your family will love this one, too.

My husband and kids really enjoyed this cake and they told me that I should make it again and again. My husband said that it was especially good with ice cream and nuts. Yum, that sounds amazing!

What are your favorite side dishes?

Mine is caesar salad (I am not a fan of pure vinegar-based dressing), corn muffin, mixed vegetables, and mashed potatoes with gravy. My most favorite though is the latter. Whenever I order something roasted or fried, mashed potatoes will always be the side dish to accompany it. I love if it is really creamy and not too dry. It will go well with the gravy. If it melts in the mouth, that’s an added bonus. My grandma used to make such creamy and flavorful mashed potatoes that sometimes there was no need to add gravy.

It tasted so well with any type of meat that our household used to call it, “the universal mashed potatoes”.

This recipe that I found over at Taste of Home gives mashed potatoes a tiny little twist. For one, it’s baked. There are also a lot of new flavors added to its traditional base, creating a finer, fiercer dish that speaks of “star dish”.

For the first time, mashed potatoes are given the spotlight, with its taste highlighted by the different ingredients going on in one pot. It’s not just simply the side dish here; it’s the main dish, the star of the culinary show.

Argo cornstarch, baking powder, baking soda, barilla pasta, Bertolli extra-virgin olive oil, black pepper, Bob's Red Mill, Borden, brown sugar, Campbell’s soups, casserole, cheesecake ball, Chiquita, chocolate chips, Clabber Girl, College Inn, Cool Whip, crock pot, Daisy sour cream, dessert, Dole, domino sugar, eat, Eggland's Best eggs, fisher nuts, food, Gold Medal flour, granulated sugar, Green Giant, Hershey, Hodgkin’s Mill, Jell-O, Jif peanut butter, Johnsonville, keebler, Kerrygold butter, kosher salt, Kraft, land o lakes butter, Libby, McCormick spices, Morton salt, Pam Cooking Spray, Pepperidge Farm, Philadelphia cream cheese, Powdered sugar, recipe, Ritz crackers, Sara Lee, Sargento, slow cooker, Thorn Apple Valley, Toll House, TruMoo milk, tyson, vanilla, vanilla extract, Vlasic, Wesson vegetable oil, whipped topping

I find dessert balls a creative way to present your favorite sugar rush.

Some balls, for example, are cute and handy. Those little balls of donuts, for example, the miniature ones that taste the same as the big ones—they’re easier to eat. There’s a less chance for your face to be covered with a glaze or whatever is the frosting of the donut you’re eating at the moment. There are also those cake pops, which are the miniature version of cakes. They taste the same, but there’s lesser chance for you to mess up your clothes or to overindulge. Then there are those graham balls; the ones made from graham crackers and butter. They’re in bite-size pieces that you can just pop into your mouths.

Then there are these big, mysterious ones. The first time I ever encountered a chocolate cheese ball was at a children’s sleepover. My brother’s wife served the kids this huge ball of chocolate-chip covered thing surrounded by graham crackers.

I watched as they devoured the huge ball of dessert using the graham crackers as spoons. Poor cheese ball. It was gone in less than ten minutes. My sister-in-law gave me the recipe and I tried making it at home. I only added nuts to the original recipe because I love nuts. It turns out that adding nuts isn’t as uncommon as I thought.
