Let’s face it, we all love potato salad. I mean, it truly is the American mascot of BBQs and picnics. From the time i was a wee little sprout my mother had me mixing up the potato salad for various parties and get-togethers. I loved the stuff! I have tasted both the midwestern and east coast versions of potato salad and I gotta tell you, the midwest wins. Here in Pennsylvania, they put sugar in everything, including their potato salad. I don’t like it too much.

Anyhoo, this recipe is for ham and potato salad. You add in some savory ham chunks to the mix and now you don’t just have a side dish you have a meal 🙂

I had never heard of Maja Blanca before this recipe came into my inbox. Sometimes, folks will send me things that they’d like me to make and feature on the blog. I was intrigued by this salad and thought to myself, “Why not?” So, I headed out to the local grocery store and picked up the few ingredients that are called for in this recipe.

Surprisingly, making Maja Blanca isn’t hard at all! I thought it would require all sorts of fancy footwork, but nope, just some stirring, and mixing. I think you will be pleasantly surprised at the flavor of this side dish. It’s super sweet and sort of coconutty. The corn gives it a nice texture that I know you’ll love. Will you be trying this different sort of salad today? if so, please let me know in the comments. I always love hearing from you guys and gals.

If you are anything like me you probably adore making goodies and treats in your Bundt pan. There’s just something about Bundts that gets my fire started. I think it’s because these cakes and breads turn out looking like a gigantic donut. I love donuts! Anyway, this recipe is for an apple pie monkey bread. Yep, you read that right. Now that you’ve picked your jaw up off of the floor, let’s get started!

All you’ll need are some very simple ingredients to make this recipe work. The original recipe calls for Granny Smith apples and a homemade apple pie filling base, but I didn’t have time to “monkey” with all of that so I bought a can of Comstock pie filling instead. You, however, can do what you want 🙂

When i was growing up my mom would always have rice krispie treats for us kids to snack on. She would make a big pan full at the start of a brand new week and that would be our after-school snack. I loved how yummy they tasted. Mom loved how easy they were to make. Recently, my neighbor Sally told me about the many different ways that rice krispie treats can be made. Did you know that you can incorporate different colors and flavors into the treats?

Sally told me that she was making pumpkin pie rice krispie treats for one of her Thanksgiving desserts. She showed me a picture of this marvelous creation and I fell in love. How adorable and fun! I think you will really enjoy making these and your family will enjoy eating them 🙂

My grandma used to make a wonderful homemade pie crust. It was so good that some of us questioned whether it was truly homemade or not. I never did, though, because I had faith in grandma’s cooking abilities. Anyway, come to find out, granny was using a very secret ingredient. The ingredient wasn’t just a secret because she didn’t want someone ripping off her recipe but because it would cause shock in some of the more conservative family members. Do you want to know what her secret ingredient was?

Vodka! Pure, undiluted vodka. And she used the good stuff, too! My grandma always said never to skimp on ingredients if you want your food to turn out right. I took grandma’s advice and bought a bottle of Absolute vodka just for this recipe. I don’t know what it is about vodka and pie crust but man, does it ever make the dough turn out amazing.

I don’t know about you guys but I love eating at Chick-Fil-A. Their chicken tenders are amazing and so is the chicken sandwich. However, there is one treat at Chick-Fil-A that I look forward to every year and that is their seasonal peppermint milkshake. Oh boy, is it ever good! So, you can imagine my delight when I came across this peppermint chocolate pie recipe that includes a Chick-fil-A milkshake.

Granted, if it isn’t the holiday season yet then you will have to improvise with your own milkshake mixture but if Chick-Fil-A is selling their masterpiece at a location near you then by golly go grab one up, now! This pie is super easy to make and sets up in a few hours. it’s rich, creamy, and totally dreamy!

Growing up in a Mennonite community in Michigan we always had these things called “whoopie pies” at church functions and potlucks. They were basically an individual cake that had sugary cream sandwiches between two halves. The ladies that made them would always wrap them up in plastic wrap and place them into a basket for everyone to grab. I loved them, but of course, I was only allowed to have one.

After getting married and moving to Pennsylvania, where my husband is from, he informed me that those whoopie pie were called “gobs” around here. Apparently, the Amish and Mennonite have different names for these amazingly sweet treats. I don’t care what they are called just as long as I get one! Anyway, this recipe is for an actual whoopie pie bundt cake and it is fabulous. Or would it be called a gob cake?
