Growing up in Michigan, I had honestly never heard of a baked apple.

Now, I’m not saying the folks up there don’t eat baked apples, but it certainly wasn’t a staple at anyone’s house that I’d ever been to. Once I met my husband and we moved to his home state of Pennsylvania, it became baked apple mania. That rhymes, haha! People here are crazy for baked apples. It’s definitely a favorite fall-time treat.

The first time I had one was at my husband’s aunt’s house during Thanksgiving dinner. It was so tender and sweet!

There are a ton of fall festivals in Pennsylvania and every single one of them hosts multiple baked apple stands. Each vendor personalizes their recipe a bit so that it stands out from the others. I like them all 🙂

Quick Tip: If you don’t have a slow cooker, feel free to bake your apples in the oven.

Did Your Granny Make These, Too?

Listen, folks – I’ve had way too much chocolate cake lately. I mean, so much that I almost can’t stand the look of it, which scares the heck out of me!

I love chocolate cake, so there has to be something wrong with me! I guess the holiday season came with such an overdose of chocolate that I need to find different kinds of desserts before I can return to my dear old favorite again.

Here’s one that’s actually on the healthy side, even though it tastes so sinfully delicious! I love apples and I’ve always enjoyed apple pies and crumbles, but it had been years since the last time I had baked apples. The recipe I used back then wasn’t all that tasty – the apples seemed a little dry, as if all the flavor had evaporated during baking. So this time I made sure I would use a recipe that would turn out juicy and delicious.

Quick Tip: These will make a great, healthy breakfast served over oatmeal – or a delicious dessert with a big scoop of vanilla ice cream!

Baked Apples, brown sugar, Fuji Apples, Gala apples, lemon

There’s nothing more delicious and healthy, than baked fruit.  Of course if it’s in a pie, maybe not so much, but when you are baking the fruit itself?  Superb!  Add some yogurt and oatmeal, and you’ve got yourself one fine breakfast!

This easy recipe makes 6 servings and is ready in under an hour.  Perfect for a weekend breakfast, or a healthy after dinner dessert, this recipe is one you need to try!
