Everyone I Know Is Crazy About This Fantastic Cake!

The older I get, the faster the years seem to fly by. It’s hard to believe we only have a couple of days of this year left – even though it seems like it was just a couple of months ago that I was shouting “Happy New Year!” It seems, when you’re young, you can’t wait to grow up as fast as possible. And when you’re getting old, you wish you could go back to being a kid again. Haha!

When it comes to New Year’s resolutions, I’ve decided not to waste a moment of my life anymore. What that means to me is that I will try and spend my time doing what I think is important, instead of spending those precious hours and days on things that don’t matter to me.

Ok, well maybe baking cakes isn’t that big of an issue for me but I still don’t want to spend too much time making them. That’s why I love recipes like this one from TheCulinarycorner! Very basic ingredients, very little preparation, yet a very awesome result!

The kids in my daughter’s eighth-grade class were planning a trip to go to Washington D.C.

It was a great idea I thought, so informational and educational for everyone. The only issue that I had was it was going to be pretty costly. I suggested at the parent involvement meeting that they do some sort of fundraising in order to cover some of the costs. All the other parents were on board for that. An idea was brought up for a dinner.

There was a shout out for spaghetti, but they already had one of those for the basketball team. I said, “What about a traditional meat and potatoes style? We are sure to bring in a crowd then.” We voted and ham won the main entree. We wanted to do something that was more than just the plain meat, and it was brought up to glaze with honey and cinnamon.

It was a homemade glaze so it wouldn’t cost a lot, and we could do tons of ham for a very low price. It was just like this recipe from Facebook. The ham dinner was really easy to make and it went over really well among the community members. The kids made a big portion of the funds they needed to head out for their trip that spring too!

When Was The Last Time You Enjoyed This Old-Fashioned Dessert?

A couple of years ago I met a lady at the church and she told me about a dessert I had never heard of. It was such a huge shock to her that I had never tried apple dumplings, and she decided we needed to fix it immediately. She invited me over to her house the next day, to have a cup of coffee and “enjoy the best dessert on the face of the earth”. How could I say no to that?

When she opened the door, immediately I noticed that her whole house smelled amazing. It was like walking into my grandmother’s kitchen again – that wonderful aroma of apples and cinnamon, baking in the oven, was enough to make my mouth water. And when I finally saw the apple dumplings, I knew she hadn’t exaggerated. They looked so delicious!

She served the dumplings with the creamiest scoop of vanilla ice cream I had ever tasted (I wish I had asked what brand it was) and a cup of strong, flavorful coffee. I literally thought I had died and gone to heaven, it was so amazing!

Get your dinner roll fix with these buttery, fluffy, and light little gems.

Dinner rolls are a staple part of any holiday dinner. In fact, at my house, dinner rolls are a staple part of any dinner haha! I’ve made many recipes for dinner rolls and some turned out very well while others weren’t so great. I found one of the greats on the Twig And feather blog. Who knew that greek yogurt and honey could make such scrumptious dinner rolls?

I am expecting my in-laws over for Thanksgiving dinner this week and I plan to make these rolls. I know they are going to be impressed by them! At least, I hope so 🙂

Are you biting at the bit for the recipe? Flip on over to the next page for a list of the details. Enjoy!

Move Over Peanut Butter – There’s a New Tasty Spread In Town!

How many of you have tried making apple butter at home? I bet almost all of you have! I’ve made a batch or two over the years, myself, and my whole family enjoys it. This year, however, I felt like trying something different. I still made a small batch of my traditional apple butter but I think this pumpkin spread turned out even better!

Funny how I had never even thought of preparing pumpkin this way before. It makes so much sense now that I’ve tried it! The consistency is perfect, so is the flavor – and you can of course tweak it to your taste.

What’s special about this “butter” is that there’s ginger and honey in it. I think those two give this such a wonderful flavor that it’s impossible to resist. I love having this with my morning toast – and I actually even add this to my oatmeal! I wonder if people would think I’m weird, if I just had this for a snack, straight from the jar with a spoon? Haha!

You’ll Laugh Your Way Through Making This

Raise your hand if you’ve gotten takeout more than once this week! I’m kind of embarrassed to say I’ve reached for the takeout menu often lately. I know it’s not the best choice, whether it’s money you’re thinking about or the health aspect. But sometimes (a lot of times, actually) I’m so short on time, takeout seems to be the only option.

I decided it was time to make a change, so I’ve been trying out all kinds of new recipes that will save the day. I need recipes that are simple to put together, don’t take a lot of time to prepare and taste just as delicious as their takeout counterparts!

This slow cooker chicken teriyaki has quickly become one of my favorites. It’s inexpensive and my whole family loves it! You can serve it over rice or your favorite noodles, and you barely have to lift a finger to prepare this.

I even had my kids make this for us the other day! My two daughters, who are 11 and 12, are always excited to help out in the kitchen. I gave them instructions and they were able to put this together completely on their own. You should have seen how proud they were of themselves!

Better Than My Mother’s Recipe – Just Don’t Tell Her I Said That!

To be honest with you, I didn’t think there was such a thing as an easy homemade bread. I thought they all required a lot of kneading, trying to get the dough to rise and all that kind of stuff. For me, that sounds a little scary. I’m not a very experienced baker and I hate wasting ingredients, so I would often just stick to store-bought bread.

But this was a recipe I just couldn’t resist! Personally, I’m not a beer drinker but my husband enjoys a cold one every now and then, especially paired with good food. I have tried adding beer to some dishes (for example stews) and they turned out very tasty, so I really wanted to give this one a go.

The bread looked amazing with the crunchy top, and I have to say that honey butter was incredible! I still don’t drink beer but I loved the flavor of this bread, and since it was so easy to make, I bet we will be having this often at our house.
