6 Hearty Dinner Recipes, #4
You only need one skillet for this casserole! This pizza casserole is definitely one of my husband’s favorite meals. In fact, it’s one he is willing to cook himself, whenever I’m too busy with work to make dinner for us.
He always adds some sliced jalapeno peppers and I must say it makes this casserole even tastier. So don’t be afraid to add some of your favorite ingredients to this one! This recipe is also super easy to double, or even triple. Just cook it in a Dutch oven if you don’t have a skillet large enough.
Ingredients
¾ lb spicy Italian sausage
35 slices (3.5 oz) Canadian bacon, diced
50 slices (3.5 oz) pepperoni, diced
24 ounces Barilla marinara sauce
2 cups water
2 tsp oregano
½ tsp garlic salt
8 oz rotini pasta (or your favorite kind)
2 cups shredded Kraft mozzarella cheese
Optional toppings: pizza sauce, black olives and parmesan cheese
Instructions:
Brown sausage for a few minutes in a large, oven safe skillet, over medium high heat. Add diced bacon and pepperoni, brown for 1-2 minutes over medium heat.
Add the marinara sauce, water, oregano and garlic salt, mix well to combine. Add the pasta, stir. Cover the pan and bring it to a boil, then reduce heat to medium-low and simmer for 10-12 minutes until pasta is tender.
Top with shredded mozzarella cheese and take the skillet under the broiler for a couple of minutes, to brown the cheese nicely.
