A trip to Grandma and Grandpa’s house was always something to look forward to when we were younger. She lived on a huge property out in the middle of nowhere, or that’s what it seemed. We would go spend the weekend there sometimes when we were lucky. She had tons of farm animals, trails to explore, and all kinds of fun things to do. Every time we went there, it was like exploring something new. We would stay outside all day and only come in when it was time to eat. That was when we really spent our quality time with Grandma and Grandpa. That was the only time that she could get us to sit still.

One of my favorite dishes that she made was her chicken and dumplings. It was especially nice when we played outside in the fall and spring, when it was just a little bit chilly still. It was so warm and comforting. Of course, it was always amazingly delicious.

I found a recipe just like hers on My Recipes and decided to give it a whirl to see if I could get it close. It took me right back to those days when we went and spent time with two of my favorite people on Earth!

One of my kid’s favorite book authors is of course the one and only Dr. Seuss. I mean, who doesn’t love him? I remember his books from when I was younger, and I think I like them just as much now as I did then. They are so fun to read. My children are starting to understand my love for the work he did, too. After reading Green Eggs and Ham for about the 100th or so time, my youngest son announced that he thought that we should have that for breakfast the following day. Thankfully, it was a weekend so I was going to have some time to work on that for him in the morning.

After they were all tucked into bed, I just did a quick search for green eggs and ham, and this recipe from My Recipes was the first one that caught my attention. It had the name that the kids were looking for, but it had an appearance of something I would actually like to eat.

We had all the ingredients we needed on hand already, so that’s what I made for them the next morning. Boy, were they surprised when they woke up. They couldn’t believe that I actually did it!

Just about every time I ask my kids what they want for breakfast, lunch, or dinner, I get pretty much the same response. They want macaroni and cheese. They will eat it from the box, homemade, whatever I have the time for whipping together. Unfortunately, with our busy schedules, a boxed version is the best that we can do most of the time. When I can take some time out to do it though, homemade from the oven it is. I just wished that I had the perfect recipe, so that it would make it all worth it when it came out. That’s when I found this recipe on My Recipes. It was the answer to my prayers.

I like mac and cheese for sure, but my taste for it is no where near that of the kids, or that was the case until I made this. When the timer went off on the oven and this piping hot dish came out, I was instantly in love with it.

It looked so ooey, gooey, and delicious, I couldn’t wait for it to cool down before taking a great big bite. It was just as good as it looked!

There’s no denying the fact that I am in love with grilled cheese sandwiches. I make them at least once a week, sometimes more. My kids share the same passion for the crunchy food that I do. My five year old daughter will often eat two sandwiches in one setting! I can’t even do that. It’s too bad that we can’t eat them all the time, because I would definitely be able to go for that. Once in a while though, we have to try something different, like meatloaf. My husband loves his meatloaf. There’s just something about biting into a big ol’ chunk of ground beef that satisfied him.

The kids don’t really care for meatloaf, so we always end up with a decent amount of leftovers. When I found this recipe on My Recipes for a grilled meatloaf sandwich, I knew it was going to be a new family favorite.

The kids, husband, and I all equally enjoyed these. My daughter didn’t even need to eat two. She was completely satisfied with the one sandwich, which was nice for a change. It was also nice to not have any leftover meatloaf to throw away for a change. That hardly ever happens.

Have you tried this amazing recipe?

My husband and I invited a few friends for dinner a few nights ago. It has been so long since we have them over. It felt nice to be able to catch up with what’s happening in each others’ lives. I had a free day at work so I was able to cook a lot of dishes for the guests. I was even able to make a dessert cheesecake that would go well with the prime rib roast I was cooking. It wasn’t supposed to be a formal dinner, but I wanted something nice for our friends. Our friends are all meat lovers. They’re the type to eat meat all day long. It’s because of that fact that I know this recipe is perfect for them.

My husband bought wine when he came home from the office. We’re partial to red wine, which we both think is perfect for any meat recipe. That’s one thing we have in common!

Our friends enjoyed dinner. They loved the main course and even asked the recipe from me. We had a good time catching up while enjoying the food I made.

You can try this dish for your family. It doesn’t matter if it’s a casual dinner or a formal dinner, they will surely enjoy this. It’s a classic meat recipe so you will never go wrong with this!

Three slices, please.

Whenever our family visits my in-laws, I always prepare my tummy. My mother-in-law never lets us go home without gaining at least a pound. She spoils us with her food! My husband feels amused every time I try to go on a diet a week before the visit. He tells me I look okay and I am not gaining any weight at all. I always tell him, “After our visit, I will be fatter! Let me lose the poundage in advance”! He just laughs. I know it’s ridiculous and it’s a long, lost cause, but can you blame me? My mother-in-law is a good cook. Anyone who says no to her food is not in their right mind.

One of her best sellers is her apple pie. It’s not an ordinary apple pie. She places lots of nuts on them depending on her mood. Sometimes, she uses hazelnuts. Sometimes, she uses pecans. But most of the time, she uses walnuts, which reminds me of this apple walnut custard pie recipe.

This pie is full of fruity and tangy goodness. Those flavors interlacing with the sugar and the crunch of the walnuts result to one amazing decadent pie. I couldn’t have enough every time it’s being served in front of me. So yes. I think I gained an inch on my waistline after that visit. My tight pants are the proof.

But it was soooo worth it!

My husband and I are planning to have a little makeover for the house. The twins’ bedroom wallpaper of flowers and bees have to go. They’re a bit older for those now. We planned it last year, but we got a bit busy with other things. We’re not the type of parents who will hire someone to do something that we both can do. In fact, when I found out I was pregnant, the two of us were the ones who decorated the nursery for the twins. A few nights ago, over the dinner of the tastiest Italian casserole recipe, we finally decided on our game plan.

This time, we wanted the wallpaper gone in the boys’ room. We planned to replace it with light blue paint. We also planned on replacing the beds of the twins as they are a bit worn out. Our sons had that phase wherein they just wanted to jump on their beds when the parents weren’t looking.

We were both so concentrated on our plans that we didn’t notice we almost finished the small baking dish of the Italian casserole. Okay, I only have our stomachs to blame for that.
