I have very fond memories of childhood on my grandma’s farm.

She would always be baking something, and I was her official taste-tester. I loved it when she made me her famous apple cinnamon raisin swirl bread.

I love toasting this bread and smearing it with butter or apple butter in the morning for breakfast while I enjoy my steaming hot cup of coffee. It also pairs well with hot cocoa or tea. Whatever floats your boat!

There’s nothing like fresh cream butter smeared across a piping hot slice of homemade raisin bread. Grandma would sip on her coffee as she ate hers and I’d sip on my hot chocolate. Such a wonderful memory!

Food tends to do that to people, help them reminisce about days gone by. Did your grandma or mother have a special recipe that she made with you? Mine would definitely be this cinnamon raisin bread. You’re going to love making this! This recipe is easily going to become your go-t0 sweet bread recipe, for sure 🙂

Take this delicious Amish-inspired casserole to your next church potluck.

One year, my church hosted a ladies breakfast. We were trying to come up with economical ways to make a lot of food on a budget. The idea of breakfast casseroles came up and I couldn’t have been more delighted. You see, my sister’s Amish friend has created the perfect breakfast casserole that feeds a literal army of people. It contains simple ingredients and is super filling. I love the use of cottage cheese in this breakfast bake.

Granted, you do not have to make this much and can certainly downsize the portion if you need to, however, this casserole is great for freezing so if you make the full amount you can toss it into the freezer for later.

A casserole is a hodgepodge of flavorful ingredients that only mom can mix together.

Sure, any of us can make a casserole, but it takes a mother to lovingly mix it all together for the nourishment of her family. This Mennonite inspired casserole is made with lots of cream soup, noodles, and seasonings that will put all of your hunger pangs to bed. My mom used to make casseroles just like this for our after church meal and it was always something to look forward too. The house would smell so delicious with this food cooking in the oven. I can almost smell it now as I reminisce! What types of foods do you recall your mother making after church?

The original author of the recipe says to use high-quality cream soups as they are what gives the dish most of its flavor. I opted to use Campbell’s.

Trust me – you’ll never make it any other way again.

Who here is looking for an easy homemade pie crust recipe? I’m sure that would be all of you. I don’t know about you guys and gals but I personally hate how long it takes to make a pie crust. You have to mix all the ingredients, form the dough, mess with it for a few minutes, then wrap and let it rest for who knows how long. THEN, you have to roll it out on your countertop, which leaves a mess, put it into your pie pan, and prebake before filling it. That’s a lot of hassle! Welp, you find any of that labor-intensive hubbub with this recipe.

Pat a Pan pie crust is a very easy crust to make and you can get it done rather quickly in comparison to other crust recipes. You whip up all your ingredients and transfer them directly to the pie plate.

This method is so easy and lets you immediately fill the crust with your pie filling. No prebaking! I know you folks will enjoy this pie crust recipe as much as I do. Happy baking!

I grew up in the Mennonite church and still attend to this day. We aren’t as conservative as some denominations are so no, I don’t drive a horse and buggy or wear a head covering, but I have friends who do 🙂 Anyway, this recipe originated within the Amish community and made it’s way over to us Mennonites. It’s delicious and very easy to make. You won’t ever attend a potluck at my church and not see this “after church” casserole on the table. It’s a staple. Plus, it’s the perfect potluck meal or meal for feeding company as it can easily be doubled or tripled or more to feed a crowd. Enjoy!

This easy dump and go casserole recipe is similar to ones popular in Amish kitchens. Amish After-Church Casserole is so simple to make, only requires six ingredients, and is absolutely delicious! With ground beef, spaghetti, vegetables and cheese, this amazing Amish recipe is one the whole family will love. Plus, it can be easily doubled if you’re feeding a crowd. Relax with this easy meal after church on Sunday, or any night of the week! – Recipe Lion

I’ll admit, when I first moved to Pennsylvania I was perplexed as to what this “scrapple” stuff was. I
t looked weird and it seemed like it was just a brick of kitchen scraps. Well, basically that is what you’ve got going on in a serving of scrapple. However, all of those scraps are the good parts. I asked my neighbor Sally if she had ever had any of this Scrapple stuff before and she got a huge grin on her face.

Little Miss Sally came over to my house with a slice of scrapple on a plate for me to try. I noticed she had poured some maple syrup over the top. I took and bit and was instantly impressed! Where oh where have you been all my life, scrapple?

Amish Country’s Finest Pickled Red Beets

Amish, appetizer, Aunt Nellie's pickled beets, bay leaves, black pepper, canning, Clabber Girl, cloves, Daisy, Dole, domino sugar, eat, egglands best, food, Gold Medal, Heinz cider vinegar, Hellman, Kraft, Land O Lakes, McCormick, Morton, onion, Pennsylvania Dutch, pickled, recipe, red beets, salt, TruMoo, Wesson

Pickled eggs and red beets are known as a “Pennsylvania Dutch” recipe. This is because of its Amish roots. Homemade beet brine with beets fresh from the family garden slowly pickle the hard boiled eggs to a purple perfection. You have the option of canning your creation of beets and eggs or storing them in the refrigerator. Both methods keep the food fresh for months.

My family loves this recipe and once we finish a jar, you can find my kids pulling another off the shelf. Pickled red beets and eggs make lovely gifts to pass out to your friends and family. Seriously, everyone loves receiving a home-cooked jar of canned goods. I enjoy eating these beets and eggs as a light lunch with a tall glass of iced tea.
