When Failure Isn’t An Option – Make One Of These Casserole Recipes

Don’t you just love the aromas of wonderful, tasty dinner casseroles baking in the oven? It is something that has always made me feel comfy and cozy, ever since I was a kid. My mother was a stay-at-home-mom and looking back, it was such a privilege to come home from school to a delicious, homemade meal every day.

I have been doing my best to create that same feeling of safety and love for my children. And since all three of them love casseroles, I make them often! (Lucky me – their favorites are also really easy to put together!)

This list of seven hearty casseroles was, in fact, inspired by my kids. I asked them what they would like for dinner next week, and they came up with a sweet, hand-written note that completely melted my heart! So we are definitely going to have some of these next week, and probably the week after that, as well!

7 easy crockpot recipes crock pot brown sugar chicken

It was my husband’s turn to make dinner for us. He decided on an easy recipe and made Crock Pot brown sugar chicken.

Between running to basketball, soccer, dance, band, choir, and whatever other after school activities my kids decide they want to sign up for, making dinner is pretty much out of the question. We so often will grab a sub sandwich from the convenience store or drive-thru for burgers. It’s so impersonal and even more, unhealthy. I feel terrible every time we do it, but for a long time, I felt like there were no other options for us.

That was until I went to stay with my mom for a weekend. I started explaining to her my issues, and she went right out and bought me a slow cooker that very same day.

I can’t believe I have never had one of these things. I think she was more shocked that I wasn’t already using one. The very first thing that she told me to cook in it was this crock pot brown sugar chicken from the web.

There weren’t a lot of complicated steps or ingredients, so it’s just right for someone starting out, or on the go or both. This crock pot brown sugar chicken came out so juicy and tender, my whole family really loved it.

We even had time to sit down as a family for once and enjoy it!

Mom is very particular about her storefront. One day, my brothers and I wanted her to make strawberry cake so we placed a sign outside of her pizza shop.

We had to take some time and celebrate this man that had done so much to help us out over the years. He was still up and very active and ready to party. We couldn’t keep it a surprise, just because there was no way that we could ever keep anything from him. So, I decided to just ask him what kind of cake he wanted me to order for him. He said, “I want you to make me one of yours from your own kitchen!” Well, okay then. I’ve always been pretty good at baking, but I didn’t realize that he liked it that much.

If that’s what he wanted though, that’s what I was going to do for him. I knew he loved strawberries, and they were in season, so that’s the direction I headed in. Strawberry cake!

I found this recipe for strawberry cake on the web and it looked absolutely perfect for the occasion. My dad saw it when I brought it out loaded with candles and he got a great big smile on his face. That smile made it all worth the extra work I had to put in.

amish macaroni salad

Old Order Amish have some of the best recipes in the land. This macaroni salad is one of them.

Macaroni salad is one of those foods that can be eaten over and over again. Every picnic or BBQ that I have ever gone too always has a big old bowl of mac salad sitting on the table in all of its glory. My mother would always make macaroni salad when I was a kid. She’d use different recipes from time to time and sometimes put tuna in her mac salad. As a child, I didn’t enjoy that ingredient very much but as I got older I learned to like it. My little sister, Amanda, always liked the tuna fish so she happily ate it whenever mom made the salad that way.

Anyway, enough reminiscing, the recipe we are chatting about today is from an old Amish cookbook. You’re gonna love it!

If you’d like to learn more about this recipe and make it for yourself, please flip on over to the next page for the details. Enjoy!

If You’ve Tried 5/6 Of These Recipes, Your Family Members Are Very Lucky

It is still very much winter here up North and occasionally I wonder if spring has forgotten all about us this year! I don’t mind the snow, as long as the days are nice and sunny, but sometimes the coldness really gets me. That’s when I like to cook these hearty dinner recipes, to keep myself and my family warm.

Some of these recipes have been around for decades and I can actually remember my grandmother serving them, when I was young. Some are a little bit more modern, although I’m not sure if I can call any of these “trendy”. In my opinion, that’s a good thing! I’ll take any old-fashioned recipe over a brand new one, anytime!

It’s impossible for me to name a single favorite of these; every one of these recipes has been a great success at our house, and I am making these pretty often. I like the fact that these are honest, hearty, inexpensive meals that you can make even on a tight budget.

What’s your favorite hearty dinner recipe? I’d love to hear about it, so don’t forget to leave a comment below!

The little brother is giving his restaurant another go and he is starting it off with a bang by making chili cornbread casserole.

Who here likes cheese, chili, and cornbread? What do you think would happen if you mixed them all together into a luscious chili cornbread casserole? I’ll tell you, magic. Yes, magic in a ding dang pan, folks. I can’t begin to tell you just how wholesome, hearty, and tasty this recipe is. For one, whoever thought that a chili cornbread casserole could be savory? Whenever I think of cobblers I envision something fruity and dessert-like. That’s not the type of cobbler that this recipe is. You can enjoy this yummy dish as a dinnertime entree. This is a meal that has been permanently placed on my monthly meal plan.

Another thing that I like about this yummy chili cornbread casserole is its southern roots. This is totally southern comfort food. Now, when I made this chili cornbread casserole there were a few things that I left out because I didn’t feel like making a run to the grocery store.

If I had to name my absolute favorite of these, I would have to say… ummm… honestly, I’d have to say all of them. But I especially love the soup recipe you’ll find as #4 on this list. It’s super easy, and so delicious! Which one of these is your favorite?
