I have always thought that red velvet cake was some kind of strawberry cake.

Yes, it was because of the red cake and the cream cheese frosting. I thought that it’s the cake form of strawberries and cream or cherries and cream. I think my niece takes after me. There was a recent incident involving her and red velvet cake at my brother and his wife’s favorite restaurant. Upon seeing the cakes behind the glass, my niece thought that that perfect red slice was strawberry cake so she insisted on having one.

The truth is, she loved eating the strawberries between the layers. So when the cake was placed in front of her, she immediately looked for them. When she found nothing, she caused a scene. She cried over the nonexistent strawberries and insisted on a new slice. It would have been easily remedied if the restaurant offered strawberry cake, but it didn’t.

The night ended up with the couple not finishing their dinner and taking my niece to a cake shop offering strawberry cake. They don’t really spoil her, but there are moments that a stern glance from my brother couldn’t even remedy. My niece ended up liking red velvet though. Just don’t ever mention strawberries.
