Fun Fact: Sweet tea is a long-time staple of the South. It is made with black tea and is always served cold. Sugar is added while the tea is still hot, creating a sugar syrup that is diffused throughout the tea.

Grits are about as creamy as creamy gets. I love feeding my family grits in the morning to ensure that their bellies are filled with wholesome foods before sending them out into the world. There’s nothing like a hot breakfast in the belly before a long day at work or school. Did you know that grits are very easy to make? They don’t take much manpower at all and they can be personalized to fit your tastes. For example, I love to add cheese to my grits and my husband enjoys brown sugar and cinnamon. How will you flavor your southern grits?

If you are wondering how to make Southern grits with a healthy twist, try this recipe for The Best Creamy Grits. This recipe is easy, simple, and delicious. You would never guess that they’re also good for you! The secret ingredient that makes these grits extra creamy, as well as high in protein, is egg whites. Make these grits for breakfast and top them with whatever sweet or savory accompaniments you prefer. They would also be excellent with shrimp for dinner. – Fave Southern Recipes

There was once a time where I would have never even thought to eat okra as a snack food. Coming from a northern state, okra isn’t what’s on everyone’s plate. This past summer my family and I took a trip to North Carolina and I got to experience fried okra for the very first time. It was uh-mazing! I loved how crunchy the batter made the okra and how zesty it all tasted. I dipped my little friend veggies in ranch dressing because that’s the only way to enjoy fried food. When I returned to the north I searched up a nice little recipe for southern fried okra and made some of it at home. Boy, did it ever turn out wonderfully!

Flavorful Southern Fried Okra is simple to make, only requires a few ingredients, and is the most delicious way to cook fresh okra in the summer. To make this fried okra recipe, sliced okra is tossed with egg and then seasoned flour. The okra is then fried until is perfectly golden and crispy. You’ll want to pop one piece after another in your mouth. It’s like Southern popcorn! Once you make this easy Southern recipe for Flavorful Southern Fried Okra, no summer will be complete without at least a couple of batches of it. – Fave Southern Recipes

I love buttermilk biscuits, how about you? The one thing I don’t love about southern buttermilk biscuits is all of the fat and calories. I mean, certain ingredients make certain foods what they are, but sometimes I want to save my waistline, too. Did you know that by swapping out one simple ingredient for another can make the world of difference in this southern buttermilk biscuit recipe? All you have to do is nix the sour cream and use greek yogurt instead and you’ll save yourself half of the fat and calories. Incredible, isn’t it? And guess what? These biscuits still come out tasting like they came from Paula Deen’s kitchen.

If you love making Southern biscuits from scratch but are looking for a way to make them slightly healthier, try this recipe for Lightened-Up Southern Buttermilk Biscuits. This easy biscuit recipe is similar to the recipes you have made before, but with a few twists. Unlike most biscuits recipes, this recipe is made with only a bit of butter. Greek yogurt helps to give these biscuits richness and a moist texture. The addition of honey also gives these Lightened-Up Southern Buttermilk Biscuits an irresistible sweetness. – Fave Southern Recipes

As a young girl, I can recall a tradition that my family and extended family always took part in on Friday nights: fish fry! We would all go to the local restaurant in town and enjoy fish that was locally sourced in the bay where we lived. I loved going out for fried fish and French fries and getting to spend time with my grandparents, aunts, uncles, and cousins. Our family must have taken up half of the dining room at the restaurant LOL As an adult, I still enjoy going out for Friday night fish but I have also learned how to make it myself. The following recipe is for an old-fashioned beer battered fish delight. It’s easy to make and tastes great. Enjoy!

If you’re looking for a great recipe for a fish fry, Lightened-Up Beer Battered Fish is the recipe for you. This easy recipe can be used to fry vegetables, chicken, or anything your heart desires. The light batter is made of a combination of flour, salt, pepper, and beer. The secret to this light beer batter recipe is rice flour. Once the fish has been dredged in the batter, coat the filet in rice flour. The rice flour creates a thin and crispy coating on the fish after it has been fried in hot oil. This easy recipe is perfect for your summer fish fry or party because everyone will love the light and crispy coating on this fried fish. – Fave Southern Recipes

When I was growing up my mother would quite often make big old pots of homemade chili. She would generally do this during the cold fall and winter months. We lived in Michigan so there was always a need to eat something that would warm up the belly. Whenever mom would make chili she would also have fluffy cornbread as well. I remember spooning the chili on top of the cornbread and sprinkling shredded cheese and a dollop of sour cream on top. MMM! Boy, was that meal ever good! I do declare that the cornbread was what made the chili so amazing, though. You’re going to love this recipe.

This recipe for cornbread is good and good for you! Once you take a bite of this Totally Addictive Cornbread, you won’t believe that it is gluten-free and full of healthful ingredients. Each slice of this cornbread is crumbly, just as Southern cornbread should be. If you prefer sweeter, cake-like cornbread, you can easily adjust this recipe to your liking. Serve this tasty cornbread with a pat of butter and a bowl of chili for a comforting Southern feast. – Fave Southern Recipes
