The perfect cool-me-down poolside dessert.

I don’t think you’ll need any extra reasons to use more ice cream, but just in case you did, here is a recipe that will wow your socks off.  The recipe is not only impressive because of its flavor, but because of how few ingredients it has and how simple it is to put together!

Have you ever seen a recipe and thought, “That has way too many ingredients, I’m a little overwhelmed just looking at it!”  I get that feeling all the time, which is why I’m always super excited to find well put together and good flavored recipes that involve very few ingredients.  That’s what stood out to me about this recipe first… and once I made it, I knew I had to share it with you.  Just 5 ingredients make up this dish.  And even though it’s simple, you’ll be forever grateful you clicked on this recipe.

      Ingredients

      1 cup Gold Medal flour

      1 cup Domino brown sugar

1/2 cup of Land O Lakes butter

      2-3 big apples

      McCormick ground cinnamon

      Instructions:

      Preheat oven to 350 degrees.

Peel and slice the apples, place them into an ungreased (7×11-inch) baking dish. Sprinkle with cinnamon. (If preferred, sprinkle them with some extra white sugar and mix.)

In a bowl, mix together the brown sugar, flour, and softened butter until well combined; sprinkle over the apples.

Bake for approximately 45-60min, until the apples are bubbling and the topping is lightly browned.
I have also put in a cup to a cup and half of quick oats into the brown sugar and flour mixture.

Since this recipe’s link is broken I found another that is very similar with directions 🙂
    Ingredients:
    6 medium size apples
    1 1/2 tsp cinnamon
    1 cup flour
    1 cup sugar
1/2 cup (1 stick) of room temperature unsalted butter

    Instructions:

preheat oven to 350 degrees F

Peel, core and cut apples into bite size chunks
Place the apples in a 8×8 baking pan
Sprinkle with 1/2 tsp cinnamon (you can adjust to your preference)
In a medium size mixing bowl combine sugar, flour, cinnamon.
Add butter to mixture and cut in with a fork (I prefer to use my hands) until it resembles pea size crumbles
Sprinkle mixture over top of the apples.
Bake for 45-60 minutes until the top is golden and the apples are soft.
Let sit for 10 minutes before serving.
You can serve it with vanilla ice cream, caramel topping, whipped cream, etc… but the flavors are so good that it isn’t necessary!

    Enjoy!

The recipe doesn’t show on the page listed above. I see a lot of us are wanting this recipe. Is it available?

    Apple Crisp

    1 cup flour
    1 cup brown sugar
1/2 cup of butter (usually equals 1 stick)
2-3 big apples (I’m biased towards Honeycrisp)
    Cinnamon

Peel your apples, and cut them into the bite size pieces. Layer them in a buttered casserole dish. Sprinkle cinnamon over them.

Combine flour, brown sugar and butter into a bowl. Cut in butter with pastry tool (or use two knives) until you have a crumbly mixture. If you like add more cinnamon.

Pour dry mixture yumminess over the apples.

Put in the oven at 375 degrees for 30-40 minutes or until golden brown.

Let cool for 15-20 min. Spoon a scoop of vanilla ice cream on top

I made this tonight, and it was delish! I didn’t have fresh apples so I used a can of Comstock apple filling. I also added some chopped walnuts on top before baking. Yum! I went by Betty’s recipe From April 12, 2017,but I used brown sugar.

Has anyone tried substituting graham cracker crumbs (like you prepare for crust) instead of the flour in this recipe? Graham crackers might add a little different texture.

I have always mixed some oatmeal in the topping to give it a crisper topping. Thank you for posting this recipe as I have lost the one I had!

  23. J Williams June 26, 2017 at 4:21 am Reply

I only use King Arthur flour, better than Gold Medal.

  24. Myrtle August 15, 2017 at 12:32 pm Reply

A healthier option would be to substitute the flour with oatmeal and add some crushed walnuts. And, instead of topping it with ice-cream use Greek yogurt mixed with a bit of pure vanilla or pure maple syrup.
