I never imagined that a grill could cook a turkey to poultry perfection but guess what? It can! Do you want to know how I came up with the idea to grill my turkey? It was really by accident but one year, during Thanksgiving, I had my bird all ready to go into the oven and my oven had other plans. Apparently, the thing quit working somewhere between making the scalloped potatoes and cornbread stuffing. It was one of those moments that left me speechless and uneasy. That is until I spotted my grill on the deck out of the kitchen window.
That would be a travesty to have your oven quit working the night before Thanksgiving! I can’t even imagine. Luckily, the grill came through 🙂
Ingredients
Place a 13×9 metal pan bottom side up on grill. Place a large cookie sheet on top of pan. Turn on both sides of grill on low heat.
Place turkey in roaster pan and rub olive oil all over to coat the whole turkey.
Mix all of your spices and seasonings together in one bowl. Sprinkle over the whole turkey inside and out.
Put the roaster pan on top of the cookie sheet on grill, uncovered and close the lid. Check every hour and add water if needed. Baste with the drippings as desired. Cook until the internal thermometer pops out all the way.
