The best part about this dish is the way if fills you up. Loaded with ground beef tossed in delicious noodles, this is the very best of the best. Full of flavor, loaded with delicious tastes, this is such a wonderful dish that I just cannot get enough of. Funny thing is, neither can my kids! They always want me to make this for dinner now. Something amazing is that it tastes like lasagna, but it definitely is not as complicated as making one. This is a simple way to be fancy! Haha
Check out what our friends over at Six Sister’s Stuff had to say about this:
“I love a good hearty casserole and this one is so easy to throw together and fill you up! This recipe will become a family favorite for sure.”
Easy, filling, delicious and definitely a family favorite now!
Ingredients
1 lb lean ground beef
1/4 teaspoon garlic salt
salt and pepper to taste
1 (15 oz) can Heinz tomato sauce
1 (8 oz) package wide egg noodles, uncooked
3/4 cup Daisy sour cream
1 cup small curd Breakstone cottage cheese
1/2 cup green onions, finely diced
1 cup Kraft sharp cheddar cheese, shredded
Instructions
Preheat oven to 350 degrees.
Cook egg noodles following directions on packaging. Rinse noodles in cold water and drain.
While noodles are cooking, brown hamburger and add garlic salt and salt and pepper. Drain meat, then pour in tomato sauce and let simmer over low heat for 5 minutes.
In another bowl, mix sour cream, cottage cheese, and green onions together. Add salt and pepper if desired. Add sour cream mixture to meat in skillet and mix well.

I will try this.
I have a question….. I am about to make this……Do I mix everything all together before putting in pan to bake (I know cheese goes on top)
Yes
Sounds yummy
About 25 yrs ago my sister gave me this recipe with green peppers and 3 oz cream cheese in chesse
mixture and layered it called mock lasagna!
It’s in the oven now!
How many does it serve?
If I don’t like cottage cheese what can I substitute
Ricotta
I don’t like cottage cheese what can I substitute
I was wondering the same thing Saundra, I can’t do cottage cheese either. I’m thinking maybe cream cheese?
You can substitute ricotta cheese for the cottage cheese.
Nutrition ? My husband is on a low salt diet for his heart so before I try it,,need Sodium content. .please
All that’s on the product labels. Heinz makes a no salt tomato sauce.
Also serving size and how many servings does it make?
Ricotta instead of cottage cheese?
Looking for casseroles to make for my elders to heat up . They dont want leftovers and cant cook much. this will be good for all.
Can not have any dairy. Anything to use instead of sour cream?
My suggestion is if you can’t eat dairy this is not for you. Everything in it except noodles and beef at dairy!
Made this last night and my picky kids LOVED it. This will definitely go into the dinner rotation.

I make something like this, everyone loves it, my version of lasagna.
Brown 1lb beef once drained mix 2 jars spaghetti sauce, mix large can cream of mushroom soup, 2pk cream cheese sand cup and half sour cream, 8ounces or more of shredded cheese, 1pk cooked egg noodles. Layer of sauce, later egg noodles, then white layer, then shredded cheese, repeat, I cook 350 for about hr.
Someone already asked my question. So I’m all set. Well
Try it this weekend. Thank you
But nobody has answered Debbie & Donna’s question of how many does it serve. I might want to cut it in half so I also would like to have that question answered. Perhaps no one knows the answer to that question.
A 9×13 pan usually has around 10 servings Give or take hearty appetites v light appetites!
I made this tonight! Delicious!
