I love bread. There, I said it. I am a true big girl at heart who loves buttery, flaky, delicious bread with every meal. Actually, sometimes the whole meal IS just bread. I just love how amazing a good piece of bread can be and wish I could have it with every dish I make. I always search to find a new and improved bread at my table, whether it is fresh or frozen. I have my favorites, but today I bring to you my absolute favorite. I love making bread, but most of the times, I end up buying bread from the bakery or my supermarket’s frozen section because it is annoying to make.
The worst part, for me at least, is working with the yeast. Sometimes it works, and other time it does not. If the water is not the perfect temperature from the start, the bread will not rise and I will end up with a soggy, ugly loaf of bread, and I hate that, really!
Does this happen to you, too? Well, no need to fear! Today I bring you my favorite dinner roll recipe and guess what?! It has no yeast involved so this one is a winner in my book!

What in the world is McArthur Milk? Just milk?
I believe McArthur’s is just a brand name like Hellman’s mayo. On the west coast Hellman’s is Best Foods.
Thank you. I was also wondering what McArthur’s milk was.
We are on the West CoSt, and Hellnans is Hellmans. And this recipe is not likely to be a success with substitutes like miracle whip.
On the west coast of where? Florida? Hellman’s is the brand east of the Mississippi River and Best Foods is the brand west of the Mississippi.
Correction….Hellman’s is also sold in Louisiana.
I prefer Dukes over Hellmans…
Both Hellman’s and Best Foods are sold in Texas, and prefer Hellman’s to either Best Foods and Dukes Mayo.
I use the vegan Hellmans – wonder if this will work just as well?
I am 75, and have cooked since I was 15…I have never heard of McArthur’s milk.
MacArthur Dairy is a Dairy in FL. MacArthur milk is just a brand name. Any regular.milk would work.
Love it because it’s easy to do and fast
I made these yesterday, and they are basically Baking Soda Drop Biscuits (in taste). Good, but do not have the smooth top you see in the photo. They come out craggy, and tasty.
I make this kind of roll
Use buttermilk instead of plain milk. Makes a better tasting roll.
Which brand of butter milk?
Any?
Is there a ratio of buttermilk to regular milk? Use less or more of the buttermilk over milk?
The picture is clearly not these rolls, since they are made in a muffin tin, and those in the picture aren’t. I don’t understand why so many recipes online don’t have pictures of the actual item. Why have a picture at all if it’s not going to be from the recipe? Use a picture of a cute puppy.
that was on point, Mr. Bruce!
I see the picture in the recipe itself shows muffin tins and the description clearly says muffin tins…
Exactly! ?
uummmm…..Mr. Bruce, the rolls in the picture are in a muffin tin. It looks exactly like my muffin tin…..
They are made in a muffin tin, as it shows in the picture and as stated in the reciipe.
They are made in a muffin tin. Put your glasses on.
What kind of flour? Self rising?
Unless specified it is always all-purpose. I have an easier recipe. Two cups self-rising flour and 1 1/2 cups heavy cream. Mix well, roll out, cut and bake at 415 degrees for 12 to 16 minutes. You can just drop them but won’t have smooth surface.
I live in the south and the only flour I use is Self Rising flour and leave out the nasty baking powder…the mayo takes the place of the oil/shortening or butter…but of you want your rolls to taste like yeast rolls…use BEER instead of milk or buttermilk….
Why don’t any of these recipes have name?
Smooth top of rolls, biscuits, etc, with water-damp fingers to smooth over the tops.
Ok, so I tried this recipe because, like the author, I have always had mixed results with yeast. These rolls came out fine but just lacked that something that yeast imparts to breads. These are really easy but in the future I will probably still do battle with yeast recipes because when they come out right they are delicious.
Just make them in a bread machine under dough and then put into muffin tins. Easy great every time.
Where’s the recipe for the rolls
USE THE RED NEXT PAGE LINK BELOW FOR THE RECIPE AND INGREDIENTS.
Next Page » you will see this directly above the pictures of other recipes. at least this is how it appears on my computer 🙂
Ingredients
1 Cup Gold Medal flour
1 teaspoon baking powder
1 teaspoon salt
½ Cup McArthur milk
2 Tablespoons Hellman’s Mayo
Instructions
Combine all ingredients and spoon into greased muffin tin.
Bake in pre-heated oven at 350 degrees for 15 min or until golden brown.
After you take out of oven brush butter on top.
I have made these two times and they are not dinner rolls. These are bisquits and they are very salty. Guess I will be buying dinner rolls from now on.
Janet Gibson –
just use less salt – 1/8 – 1/4 would be all that I would be able to use > if I make them, as my husband has major salt restrictions !
These are not dinner rolls. They are a tasty tea biscuit. I used buttermilk and if I make them again I’ll cut back on the salt. The photo is totally misleading.
Yep just an old fashioned biscuit. Good but not yeast rolls. And less salt is good.
Why go through all that when you can use quick rising yeast just put the yeast right in the flour whisk it all around and proceed with your recipe of your choice. I use it all the time not the tradional yeast that you have to let ruse in water. My bread turns out beautiful all the time
I’ve made these for years, but my recipe calls for double the amount of ingredients giving you 10 to 12 nice sized muffin/rolls. I also frequently add garlic powder, grated cheddar cheese & fresh parsley to make a delicious quick garlic bread. Just be sure to add these extra ingredients to the flour & toss together, then continue the recipe as directed. Brush tops with garlic butter when hot out of the oven. Delicious !
I like your ideas M.S. Jones…will give those a try!
RE: garlic piwder, I use pure granulated garlic. Don’t use garlic salt.
If I made them once and they were to salty, I would cut back on the salt the next time. I still want to know what McAuthur’s Milk is. Helman’s mayo is listed, but so is the milk. Is it canned, buttermilk, or just a brand name? I like yeast bread and there are some easy recipes out there on face book. Nothing beats that taste. Thank you for all you help and recipes.
The picture shows rolls, not biscuits and that’s what the recipe is about. Rolls have some kind of yeast even if it’s in the air yeast. You can see the structure and texture of them in that particular picture. Just call them really good biscuits.
Have you ever seen a muffin tin that makes 5 ??? Really? And the pic is obviously not these biscuits. Not the same thing at all !!!
I just made this recipe and mine looked just like biscuits. My biscuits taste better. This recipe is very misleading!!!!!
i, as well as many, inquired about “McArthur milk and find it is just the brand name and not a specific blend. i think the poster should correct the ingredient to 1/2 c WHOLE/% MILK so it doesn’t confuse all who want to make it.
Maybe she is getting a kickback from McArthur??? LOL!!!
I wish!
excellent..our new fav biscuit..made 4 in jumbo muffin tin with light spray of Pam ..because of size they needed a bit longer baking time @ 350..used a scant 1/2 tsp salt, 1/2 buttermilk (slightly over), 1/2 tsp baking soda, 1 tsp baking powder, 1 cup flour, 2 T mayo…mixed with spoon until blended ..spooned into tin..delish!!
*correction above..1/2 cup buttermilk…
mcAurther is in Florida too i live herer
Going to try some of these
Lorraine,Correction….Hellman’s is also sold in Nebraska,Iowa some places in Kansas,Texas.I think you should do your homework before stating a false fact.I have lived in a few of these places and I have never heard of Best Food Mayo.
Way too salty and I just made tiny, hard, crumbly drop biscuits in a muffin tin. I feel like a goof rofl
Has anyone tried the 3 ingredient biscuit that has 7up in it?
Yep, didn’t have 7! Used ginger ale and they came out good. Bought some 7Up and now. I have misplaced the recipe. LOL
AZ has Hellman’s and Best Foods mayo.
Made these but I thought they where a type of roll like yeast rolls. They turned out to be more like a biscuit. My husband loved them. Should I have used self rising flour? I used all-purpose flour. They didn’t even look like the picture.
I think I will try them with butter instead of mayonaisse
I would not use butter instead of mayonnaise in this recipe. Mayonnaise has vinegar in it which will react with the baking powder to help them rise.
Is this more like a popover than a roll?
It’s a RECIPE people… Make it or Not… don’t bitch about it not being made in muffin cups because you can CLEARLY see you use a muffin PAN
I make these all the time…they are easy and fast…I add cheese or rosemary to them just to change the flavor..ty for posting Bonnie
can this be made into a loaf of bread
Answer me this question please. when I print of recipe, why do I get all the comments. I only want recipe. not 8 pages of comments.
McArthur Milk is a brand name for a no fat milk.
