I love cooking with ground turkey. it’s a wonderful alternative to ground beef as it is healthier and less expensive. This casserole comes out tasting amazing.
Check out what my pals over at Recipe Lion had to say about this recipe:
Ground Turkey Cabbage Casserole is a hearty and delicious cabbage casserole recipe that will please even your toughest critics. This ground turkey casserole is lean and packed with protein, so you can feel good about serving it to your loved ones. Cheddar cheese and breadcrumbs hold this casserole together and give it some added flavor. Make this casserole for a casual weeknight dinner, or try it out for a festive St. Patrick’s day meal.
I never thought about this delicious casserole being served on St. patty’s Day but I guess it would make sense because of the cabbage. This is a great casserole to serve on any day, though 🙂
Ingredients
1 tablespoon Wesson vegetable oil
1 pound ground turkey
1 cup onion, chopped
1 tablespoon finely minced garlic
1 teaspoon McCormick caraway seeds
8 cups chopped cabbage (about 1 head 6 inches across)
2 cups Kraft shredded Cheddar cheese
1/2 cup Daisy sour cream
1/2 teaspoon Morton salt
1/2 teaspoon fresh ground pepper
1/2 cup 4C breadcrumbs
Instructions
Preheat oven to 375 degrees F. Lightly spray a 8×12-inch bake dish with cooking spray.
Add vegetable oil to a large skillet over medium-high heat. When it’s hot, add the onion and cook until translucent, about 3 minutes. Add garlic and caraway seeds and continue to cook and stir for 2 more minutes.
Add the turkey and cook until no longer pink, breaking up clumps of meat with the back of a spoon. Add the cabbage and cook, stirring, until cabbage is translucent, about 4 minutes.
Turn off heat, add the cheese, sour cream, salt and pepper, and stir to combine evenly. Pour into the prepared bake dish and sprinkle with breadcrumbs.
Bake 40 minutes until lightly browned.
