Salisbury steak never gets a bad wrap. Seriously, this recipe is a classic dish and tastes wonderful. I love eating it with mashed potatoes and green beans. How about you? My family also like to eat a tossed salad with this meal in addition to the mashed potatoes and green beans. We really love eating our veggies. Sometimes, we will also have some applesauce. What are your favorite sides to pair with Salisbury steak and other comfort foods?

Check out what my friends over at Cook Top Cove had to say about this recipe:

If you ask most adults, they probably recall this elementary school cafeteria lunch special: Salisbury steak. What kid wouldn’t? The nostalgia we have for certain foods is deeply rooted in our experiences as children. Now, if you’re new to Salisbury steak, it’s simple enough to master and endless variations abound to suit your family’s taste.

I remember having Salisbury Steak as a child at school! However, this recipe is much tastier than the one I experienced at the elementary school cafeteria.

Ingredients

For the patties:

1 1/2 lb ground beef

1 Eggland’s Best egg

1/4 cup minced onion

1/4 cup 4C bread crumbs

1 clove garlic, crushed

1/2 teaspoon Morton salt

1/4 teaspoon Mccormick pepper

1 small onion, sliced

6-oz mushrooms, sliced

1 1/2 cup College Inn beef broth

1 package of McCormick brown gravy mix

1 tablespoon Heinz ketchup (optional)

1 tablespoon dijon mustard (optional)

2 tablespoons Argo corn starch

Instructions

1. Mix all the patty ingredients together, then form small patties about 3/4 of an inch thick.

2. Make a bed of onion and mushrooms in the slow cooker.

3. You can place the raw patties directly into the slow cooker, but we highly recommend browning them on a skillet for optimal flavor.

4. Mix all other ingredients except the cornstarch and pour over the meat and vegetables. Cook on Low for 5 hours.

5. Remove patties. On High setting, whisk in cornstarch and let cook until it thickens.

6. Add patties back into coat with sauce before serving.
