How simple is this recipe! It has made my life so much easier – not only when I’m cooking turkey but on other occasions as well. This recipe has been a great hit over at Betty Crocker. It has received plenty of rave reviews from readers – let’s take a look at what some of them have had to say about it:

Not only is this the lifesaver it claims to be because of the slow cooker method, but it has become my FAVORITE sweet potato recipe because they are SO good! I found this recipe a few years ago, and have made it numerous times for myself and for pot-lucks. If you have found this recipe and it’s last minute – use the canned yams, but don’t have to cook for as long.

I have made this several times. It is really good! This year I am using crushed pineapple with juice and 1 teaspoon of cinnamon.

Mmm! Crushed pineapple sounds delicious – I’m going to have to try that one next!

Ingredients

6 medium (2 pounds) sweet potatoes or yams, peeled and cut into 1/2-inch cubes
1 1/2 cups applesauce
2/3 cup packed brown sugar
3 tablespoons butter or margarine, melted
1 teaspoon ground cinnamon
1/2 cup chopped nuts, toasted

Instructions:

Place sweet potatoes in 2- to 3 1/2-quart crock pot. Mix remaining ingredients, except nuts; spoon over potatoes.

Cover and cook on low heat setting 6 to 8 hours or until potatoes are very tender.

Sprinkle with nuts. This recipe was tested in slow cookers with heating elements in the side and bottom of the cooker, not in cookers that stand only on a heated base. For slow cookers with just a heated base, follow the manufacturer’s directions for layering ingredients and choosing a temperature.

Sounds good, but I do this opposite I put a turkey breast in the crockpot. Add things that I would usually add to the turkey in oven. Cook on low about 6-hrs.this is for about a 10lb breast. Then you can use the oven to fix what sides you want. I find it doesn’t heat my kitchen as much.
