You can have these on your table every night because they are so quick and easy to make. Do not be scared about the lack of yeast. Because of other ingredients are thrown in there, these rise beautifully and also taste amazing. Just because it is lacking yeast, does not mean it is lacking flavor. Feel free to get creative with this too. Mix some garlic, parmesan cheese, and olive oil and create garlic bread. Try different things! I love to get creative when i bake!

Check out what our friends over at My Honey’s Place had to say about these,

“These dinner rolls are so easy to make, all you do is combine all ingredients and spoon into greased muffin pain. The recipe makes 5 rolls.”

What in the world is McArthur Milk? Just milk?

      • Sharon April 28, 2017 at 4:44 am Reply

I believe McArthur’s is just a brand name like Hellman’s mayo. On the west coast Hellman’s is Best Foods.

        • Kay Cook July 8, 2017 at 5:19 am Reply

Thank you. I was also wondering what McArthur’s milk was.

        • Charronne August 5, 2017 at 6:14 am Reply

We are on the West CoSt, and Hellnans is Hellmans. And this recipe is not likely to be a success with substitutes like miracle whip.

On the west coast of where? Florida? Hellman’s is the brand east of the Mississippi River and Best Foods is the brand west of the Mississippi.

            • Betty August 22, 2017 at 5:27 pm

Correction….Hellman’s is also sold in Louisiana.

            • Po September 13, 2017 at 12:49 pm

              I prefer Dukes over Hellmans…

            • Sylvia Puentes October 12, 2017 at 7:49 am

Both Hellman’s and Best Foods are sold in Texas, and prefer Hellman’s to either Best Foods and Dukes Mayo.

I use the vegan Hellmans – wonder if this will work just as well?

I am 75, and have cooked since I was 15…I have never heard of McArthur’s milk.

MacArthur Dairy is a Dairy in FL. MacArthur milk is just a brand name. Any regular.milk would work.

I made these yesterday, and they are basically Baking Soda Drop Biscuits (in taste). Good, but do not have the smooth top you see in the photo. They come out craggy, and tasty.

I make this kind of roll
Use buttermilk instead of plain milk. Makes a better tasting roll.

          Any?

Is there a ratio of buttermilk to regular milk? Use less or more of the buttermilk over milk?

The picture is clearly not these rolls, since they are made in a muffin tin, and those in the picture aren’t. I don’t understand why so many recipes online don’t have pictures of the actual item. Why have a picture at all if it’s not going to be from the recipe? Use a picture of a cute puppy.

      • sharon wallace May 5, 2017 at 3:35 pm Reply

that was on point, Mr. Bruce!

What kind of flour? Self rising?

      • Gail August 6, 2017 at 3:27 am Reply

Unless specified it is always all-purpose. I have an easier recipe. Two cups self-rising flour and 1 1/2 cups heavy cream. Mix well, roll out, cut and bake at 415 degrees for 12 to 16 minutes. You can just drop them but won’t have smooth surface.

      • patsy August 18, 2017 at 12:14 am Reply

I live in the south and the only flour I use is Self Rising flour and leave out the nasty baking powder…the mayo takes the place of the oil/shortening or butter…but of you want your rolls to taste like yeast rolls…use BEER instead of milk or buttermilk….

Smooth top of rolls, biscuits, etc, with water-damp fingers to smooth over the tops.

    9. JP Colter July 12, 2017 at 11:24 pm Reply

Ok, so I tried this recipe because, like the author, I have always had mixed results with yeast. These rolls came out fine but just lacked that something that yeast imparts to breads. These are really easy but in the future I will probably still do battle with yeast recipes because when they come out right they are delicious.

      • Sandy Phipps August 9, 2017 at 6:58 pm Reply

Just make them in a bread machine under dough and then put into muffin tins. Easy great every time.

I have made these two times and they are not dinner rolls. These are bisquits and they are very salty. Guess I will be buying dinner rolls from now on.

      • BeckyJo Middlebrooks August 13, 2017 at 4:05 am Reply

        Janet Gibson –

just use less salt – 1/8 – 1/4 would be all that I would be able to use > if I make them, as my husband has major salt restrictions !

    12. Helen. July 30, 2017 at 1:26 am Reply

These are not dinner rolls. They are a tasty tea biscuit. I used buttermilk and if I make them again I’ll cut back on the salt. The photo is totally misleading.

    13. Margaret August 3, 2017 at 1:24 pm Reply

Yep just an old fashioned biscuit. Good but not yeast rolls. And less salt is good.

    14. May August 4, 2017 at 6:31 pm Reply

Why go through all that when you can use quick rising yeast just put the yeast right in the flour whisk it all around and proceed with your recipe of your choice. I use it all the time not the tradional yeast that you have to let ruse in water. My bread turns out beautiful all the time

    15. M.S. Jones August 5, 2017 at 3:51 pm Reply

I’ve made these for years, but my recipe calls for double the amount of ingredients giving you 10 to 12 nice sized muffin/rolls. I also frequently add garlic powder, grated cheddar cheese & fresh parsley to make a delicious quick garlic bread. Just be sure to add these extra ingredients to the flour & toss together, then continue the recipe as directed. Brush tops with garlic butter when hot out of the oven. Delicious !

RE: garlic piwder, I use pure granulated garlic. Don’t use garlic salt.

    17. Carolyn Hinkelman August 5, 2017 at 9:46 pm Reply

If I made them once and they were to salty, I would cut back on the salt the next time. I still want to know what McAuthur’s Milk is. Helman’s mayo is listed, but so is the milk. Is it canned, buttermilk, or just a brand name? I like yeast bread and there are some easy recipes out there on face book. Nothing beats that taste. Thank you for all you help and recipes.

    18. Gail August 6, 2017 at 4:40 am Reply

The picture shows rolls, not biscuits and that’s what the recipe is about. Rolls have some kind of yeast even if it’s in the air yeast. You can see the structure and texture of them in that particular picture. Just call them really good biscuits.

    19. Anne Weaver August 9, 2017 at 4:41 pm Reply

Have you ever seen a muffin tin that makes 5 ??? Really? And the pic is obviously not these biscuits. Not the same thing at all !!!

I just made this recipe and mine looked just like biscuits. My biscuits taste better. This recipe is very misleading!!!!!

i, as well as many, inquired about “McArthur milk and find it is just the brand name and not a specific blend. i think the poster should correct the ingredient to 1/2 c WHOLE/% MILK so it doesn’t confuse all who want to make it.

    32. Bonnie R. September 19, 2017 at 9:07 pm Reply

I would not use butter instead of mayonnaise in this recipe. Mayonnaise has vinegar in it which will react with the baking powder to help them rise.
