Now, before you get your skirt in a bunch, know that this pie DOES NOT CONTAIN ANY SAWDUST. I know most of you are smart enough to know this little tidbit of information but there are some folks out there who…how do I put this…need a helping hand 🙂 So, now that we’ve got that cleared up, who is going to make this Amish delicacy with me? I have all of the ingredients to make this pie in my pantry and that is exciting! I hate running to the grocery store for just a few ingredients. Let’s get baking!
Seriously, this sawdust pie is super easy to make and only uses a handful of ingredients. Yay!
Ingredients
1 (9-inch) prepared Pillsbury or homemade pie shell
1 1/2 cup flaked coconut
1 1/2 cup Keebler graham cracker crumbs
1 1/2 cup chopped pecans
1 1/2 cup Domino sugar
1 cup egg whites; (6 to 7)
Instructions
Preheat oven to 450 degrees F.
Line a pastry-lined, 9-inch pie plate with a double thickness of foil.
Bake for 8 minutes. Remove foil. Bake for 4 to 5 more minutes or until golden. Cool on a wire rack.
Turn oven down to 350 degrees F.
Combine coconut, graham cracker crumbs, pecans and sugar in a large bowl. In another bowl, beat egg whites just until foamy; add to the coconut mixture. Mix well. Pour into the prepared pie shell.
Bake, uncovered, in a 350 degree oven for 35 minutes or until set.
