Meatloaf is one of those staple meals that we all probably cook at least once or twice a month. Typically, a basic meatloaf recipe is very easy to make and does not require many ingredients. I know that my mother’s recipe was always very good and when she taught me how to make it when I was a young girl I was surprised that something that tasted so good was so simple to toss together. My mom would sometimes use ground beef mixed with ground turkey or ground venison. Yum!

The recipe that we are checking out today is for an easy Amish meatloaf. Folks, when I say easy I mean easy! I can’t believe how succulent this meatloaf turned out when I made it the other day.

There’s nothing special about this meatloaf other than it is super simple to make and there are a few surprise ingredients lurking inside. I do have to say that this recipe is almost as good as my moms 🙂

What does the red chili flakes do. Is there a substitute, or can be omitted?

They just give it a bit of spicy flavor. You could definitely omit.

Each of us have our own favorite meatloaf recipe. I’ve been using the same basic one for years. Sometimes I pat it out into a big square, cover the square with any combination of ingredients I like ie: mushrooms and caramelized onions, shredded cheese, any combination of the veggies and cheese, salsa and peppers, just about anything you want. Roll up, cover with your favorite sauce, then bake at 350` for 60 to 90 minutes. Let cool before cutting.
