The way to a man’s heart is through his stomach—it’s often that we hear about this saying. I for one thought it’s true.

A few of my aunts and a few of my friends managed to get the attentions of their husbands because they fell in love with the food that they made. And the rest, as they say, is history. For example, if it’s me and my husband, it couldn’t have been my expertise in the kitchen because he’s a hundred times better than me in there. It’s actually my cold behavior, he said.

It probably was. Because he’s used to being chased by girls and I wasn’t one of them. We started out as friends though. And that might have helped. One of my friends, Pat, told me how she managed to snatch the heart of her fiance’s grandfather. She said that out of everyone in his family, it’s a tradition that the soon-to-be bride should be able to melt the heart of the cold grandfather. A lot had succeeded, and a lot had failed.

But Pat didn’t want to fail so she did her best. This old saying was what came to her mind at that time, so when she came over to the family house to be introduced, she volunteered to cook dinner for everyone. Well, it had turned out great.

The grandfather loved her flavorful soup, which she decided would be the perfect meal. It’s flavorful and light at the same time. The soup actually made him smile, much to everyone’s surprise. The grandfather’s last words before she and her fiance left were, “I now know you can take care of my grandson. Go and be happy.”

If I will consider any one of my guy friends as my guy best friend, it would have to be Peter. Peter has a dry sense of humor that matches perfectly with mine.

When the two of us argue over something, no one wins because we’ll just keep throwing sarcastic remarks towards each other. However, beneath his snarkiness, there lays a southern gentleman heart and charm that he always hides. I asked him once why he’s hiding those qualities. He told me that he never hid them. It’s just that he was waiting for someone to unravel who he really is inside.

I thought it was romantic and I told him so. It earned me a friendly glare. Then I asked him what’s the qualities he’s looking for in a woman because I have other friends that I could ask him to consider. He told me it didn’t work that way. He said he wanted a love story that can rival that of his parents. His parents didn’t meet each other until after college.

They weren’t one of those long-time friends who fell in love. Fate simply put them together and voila! Instant Peter! Kidding, kidding. He said he wanted his girl to be a paradox; someone who will keep surprising him even when they’re already married. Well, I hope that one-of-a-kind girl exists, Peter!

Anyway, please check out this recipe that I’m about to share with you. This Mongolian beef recipe tastes so flavorful that you wouldn’t ask for anything else. I hope you will enjoy this one-of-a-kind taste!

My family loves berries, I couldn’t say that enough. We love the tartness and the sweetness of these fruits.

Even though some of them are sweet, you can still taste the hint of freshness hat just balances everything out. This is the reason why we love berries in our desserts. You can’t just go wrong with berries. They will always give that certain touch of kick in all of your favorite desserts. The result always leads to satisfied family members. Berries taste best when they’re freshly picked, but I wouldn’t say no to the packed ones you can buy in grocery stores.

There’s nothing wrong with them. It’s just that I grew up eating my grandmother’s desserts which used fresh berries; they truly tasted yummy. There’s something different in using fresh ingredients, but the ones you can buy in stores are a good alternative. Our family always has any type of berries in the fridge. We put them in almost everything.

This strawberry tart recipe is one good way of making use of your strawberries. This recipe from Smells Like Home has the most delicious cream filling. You don’t want to miss this, I’m tellin’ ya! So if you want a copy of this recipe, which your family can enjoy, you can find the list of ingredients and instructions on the next page. Enjoy!

My family and I love creamy salads. I usually avoid mayo, but if it’s in a salad, I don’t mind it so much.

It’s slightly sour-salty taste (I don’t like the sweet-sour variety) makes a dish really taste interesting. Potato salad and chicken salad are two of my most favorite mayo-based salad, and I usually prepare it for the enjoyment of my family. Don’t get me wrong; my family loves fresh salads too. But this is particularly special to us because my husband and I grew up eating this types of salad.

My own mother, for example, loves potato salad so much. We usually had it at least once a week when I was a kid. My dad loves it too, and so do I; it’s only my brother who’s too picky to eat anything other than meat. Now that I have my own family, I find myself making it all the time too. Mostly, I make it as a side dish; but my husband eats it for a snack too. He even puts it in bread along with a slab of meat on it.

This simple crab salad from Mom’s Food Blog reminds me of potato salad. They’re both mayo-based, except that this one really has that seafood flavor because of the crabs. I assure you, that if you love seafood, you’re going to love this! This salad is simple to prepare. You don’t need to be an expert in the kitchen to be able to make this!

A few weeks ago, one of my husband’s cute nieces stayed with us for a couple of days. His younger brother and his wife needed to take care of business and there was no kid allowed during the meetings.

We call her Munchies. It’s a nickname given by my husband’s other siblings for a reason I didn’t want to ask. Munchies was a really behaved girl. She’s already two years past that age wherein she’s causing trouble to her parents. There’s only one problem with Munchies: she’s a very picky eater. Her mom had told me her problems with feeding her.

She reminds me of my brother when he was a kid; all he ever wanted to eat was meat, meat, and meat. That’s a bit of a problem because while meat has protein, she needed other nutrients inside her body too. But she only ever ate vegetables in burgers and fruits in pies. She’s not much of a fan of the classic homemade dishes.

This was where this bacon cheeseburger mac and cheese enters the scene. I found this recipe over at The Lazy Mom Cooks. While it’s not as healthy as her mom would have wanted her to eat, it’s a whole lot healthier than fast food. And Munchies enjoyed the dish; do sis my kids who love their cheese and their meat. I served it with vegetables on the side and she even tried the vegetables. This mac and cheese recipe can do wonders!

Since getting married, my husband informed me that he likes turkey more than ham.

So we now buy turkey from the deli instead of the usual ham I grew up with.  I do not mind, because I truly like all the options, but I miss ham every now and then and will even stop by Subway to pick up a ham and cheese sub to satisfy that little ham craving I get every now and then. It is not like I cannot live without ham, I just really enjoy it every now and then.

The kind of ham I really like is a good old fashioned honey spiral ham like the kind you get at Christmas parties. It is thick, juicy and is stuck to the bone.  The honey brown sugar coating on it is delicious and I love keeping any leftovers to throw in some soups such as split pea.

Now, the little problem with this ham is that it takes forever to make and occupies my oven for quite a while, which is kind of annoying.  Well, ladies and gentlemen, I have found the solution to that: slow cooker honey ham.  It is juicy and delicious, just as if it were out of the oven!

When I first heard about this recipe, I thought that it will not be the type of dessert that my family will love.

It’s lemon and it’s sour cream on one dish. It feels as if when they combine, it will be an acquired taste. I mean technically, they’re both sour. Lemon with its citrusy taste and sour cream with its creamy but tangy taste. But of course, when I finally tried it, it proved me wrong and instantly became one of the family’s favorites. Our family loves lemons. The zesty taste of lemon is different than that of other citrus fruits.

Lemon is more refreshing and that’s what we love about it. When I first made this lemon sour cream pie for my family (right after I test-tasted it of course), I knew it was going to be a hit. And I was right! My husband had about a couple of slices while my sons finished the ones on their plates.

And we all finished the full pie the next day. We all sat in front of the television and devoured the leftover pie that we kept on the fridge. Yes, it still tasted as good the next day! So if you want a copy of this amazing lemon sour cream pie for your family, don’t hesitate to click on the next page. You will find the full list of ingredients and instructions in there. Enjoy!
