We all remember our favorite childhood food.

Mine would have to be grilled sandwiches and the beloved Sloppy Joes that my mom would make for us kids. Mom would cook up a HUGE batch of the glorious ground meat and we’d eat it for probably three days during the summer months. My mother would never use canned sauce or that Manich crap.

No, siree! She would always make her own homemade sauce to pour over the ground burger meat, and it was delicious. I would always invite my friends to eat lunch with us because everyone loved mom’s Sloppy Joes. I don’t know if this drove mom crazy or not but she never complained.

So, if you’re like me and you like Sloppy Joe sandwiches you’re going to love this deep dish Sloppy Joe Casserole. It combines everything you love about the classic sandwich into a neat and tidy baking dish. No hands are needed here, well, maybe to hold your fork and shovel the food into your face, but that’s all!

Quick Tip: My mom would always put green peppers into her Sloppy Joe mix and I added them to this casserole. So good!

One of my husband’s favorite meals is a good old, classic sloppy Joe.  I’m not sure if it’s because of the actual taste or the fact that he can be dirty and messy and it’s perfectly allowed.  Either way, we have these a lot around here.  It’s tasty, filling and let’s be honest, comfort food. I love how simple this meal is. I mean, for a casserole, there really aren’t too many ingredients. You just add everything to your baking dish and there you have it.

You know what’s even better than a yummy sloppy Joe?  A sloppy Joe casserole.  It keeps the mess contained on a plate and eaten with a fork.  My husband would definitely beg to differ as he prefers the mess, but I like this.  Everything cleanly contained while not sacrificing on the flavor. I think that my kids request Sloppy Joe casserole more often than any other meal. it’s tasty, it’s filling, and it’s seriously not sloppy lol! It’s a win-win situation.

4-ingredients, baking powder, baking soda, Bertolli extra-virgin olive oil, black pepper, Bob's Red Mill, camping food, Clabber Girl, dinner, domino sugar, easy, eat, Eggland's Best eggs, food, Gold Medal flour, Johnsonville, kosher salt, Kraft, land o lakes butter, lean ground beef, Manwish, McCormick spices, Morton salt, mozzarella cheese, Pillsbury garlic crescent rolls, recipe, Sloppy Joe Casserole, supper, TruMoo milk, Wesson vegetable oil

If your household is anything like mine, you probably have a boatload of Sloppy Joe lovers on your hands. I, for one, happen to love gnawing on a good old fashioned Sloppy Joe sandwich, but I hate the mess that they make. Have you ever feed a Sloppy Joe to a 3-year old? It’s a tragic occasion on the mess factor.

When I can across Sloppy Joe Casserole, my heart skipped a beat, and I did a few backflips through my dining room. Ok, that last part isn’t true, but I did do a little dance! This casserole is uh-mazing, folks. It tastes just like traditional Sloppy Joe sandwiches but doesn’t leave you with messy clumps of tomato sauced meat lying on your kitchen floor. It’s also very easy to make and only consists of 4 ingredients!

Quick Tip: If you pack school lunches (or work lunches) this casserole is a great way to satisfy the lunch hunger monster. Plop a leftover square into a microwave-safe container and send it on its way.

This Sloppy Joe Casserole recipe is a classic, hearty American meal, made into an easy (and easy-to-eat) form. And you can put it together in half an hour. Imagine that, dinner ready in less than 45 minutes without a huge mess to clean up afterward. Genius! More time for you to just sit back and relax after a busy weekday.

I did like sloppy joes as a kid. (Hey, some meals just transcend gender.) I do remember there being VERY messy, though, and that is probably why they were only an occasional rather than regular meal for me, growing up. Turns out, you can have all of that great flavor in a much cleaner casserole form.

Quick Tip: I sometimes toss in a can of sweet corn to give this casserole a boost of texture.
