how to make cake - butter cake

My grandma used to make this cake, and now I’m making it for my kids!

I think it’s a given that the older generation has a different definition of fashionable clothes. I had a hard time keeping the laughter in whenever I remember that one time when my aunts had a bit of a culture shock when they finally realized that there were different kinds of fashion now and that they mostly wouldn’t definitely get them because that’s just how fashion evolved—you just go with it. It started when they saw us girls discussing something from a fashion magazine on Joana’s hands.

Aunt Carmen, who’s probably the most conservative, came over to see what we’ve been arguing about. It was a simple thing. We were arguing whether red shoes would look good with blue pants and vice versa. I told Joana that it would as long as you know how to carry your clothes. Color is something that you play with now.

She actually agreed except that she said blue pants would look better with yellow flats. My Aunt Carmen, who was listening, said that we were ridiculous because those colors would clash together. And then we explained things to her. Aunt Beth quietly placed a loaf of butter cake in front of us along with saucers and said, “Carmen. You would understand this better. Eat.” Well, it wasn’t just Aunt Carmen who “understood” the butter cake. It was gone in a few minutes!

Truffles. In the past, I never really liked them. They were too strong in flavor and the texture was not really my favorite either. It was just a weird kind of mix between a cookie, brownie and candy to me. As strange as it is, though, I have found that if you play around with the flavors, there is bound to be something you will love.

The other day I was baking chocolate chip cookies. While I was eating raw cookie dough, it occurred to me “what if I made something with raw cookie dough that is edible?” Well, after many tries at something delicious, but not too complicated, I came up with this: cookie dough truffles. Yep, you read that right! These are the perfect combination of cookie sweet and fun because of the taste. Coat them in chocolate and then top with some colorful sprinkles and you have got quite the dessert. These are fun and exciting and kids love them! Every time I have made them, my friend’s kids rave about them and beg for more. These have become my personal treat to every birthday boy and girl I know. And guess what? I’m the cool one!

For Grandma’s Cowboys And Cowgirls

There are so many ways to make chocolate chip cookies, don’t you agree? I think we all have that special family recipe that we cherish so much.

I know I do – but sometimes I feel like trying a new recipe, just for fun. They don’t always turn out as good as I had hoped, but this time I found a gem! These little cowboy cookies are so incredibly crunchy and yummy, you’ll just keep going for one more. Which is why I highly recommend making a double batch!

The recipe is very simple, old-fashioned even, but that’s how the best recipes always are. The only adjustment I made was that I used both dark and white chocolate chips, just because I happened to have white ones at hand. They turned out so amazing that my husband ate seven of them before they were even completely cooled! So I’m really not kidding about the double batch!

Your Kids Are Going To LOVE These

I must have been living in a bubble, so to speak, because I had never heard of halfmoon cookies before. Such a shame!

I have spent all these years without them when I could have enjoyed these wonderful black and white treats all along! Well, I intend to take back what I’ve been missing out on. Cookies, cookies everywhere!

It’s not a difficult recipe at all but you do need a little bit of patience with the icing part. Mainly because you’re going to want to eat them straight out of the oven… Hold your horses – while these are yummy even without the icing, they’ll be extra delicious once they’re all pretty and frosted! This recipe will give you plenty of these lovely treats but, if you’re like me, you’re going to want more. And more. So just do yourself a favor and bake a double batch!

Gold baking soda, Gold whole wheat flour, McCormick cinnamon, McCormick vanilla, Quaker Oats

Who doesn’t love breakfast? We are all guilty of skipping the most important meal of the day at least once in our lives. We have to get ready for work, drop the kids at school, run some errands blah, blah, blah. No matter how busy we all can be, it doesn’t mean that we can’t make time for it right? It is essential to have breakfast.  Period.

“These bars come together quickly, especially if you have leftover quinoa in the fridge like I usually do. However, you can easily make a fresh batch of quinoa for use in these bars. Just let it cool slightly before mixing up the batter. I cut these into bars and put each one in a snack size Ziploc bag before putting them in the fridge. That way they were ready to go and hubby could just grab a bag on the way out the door to work. I’d recommend letting them cool completely before cutting.” according to Lindsay of The Lean Green Bean

I don’t know about you, but sipping on a fresh Orange Julius is one of my favorite things to do during the hot summer months. However, I’m a bit of a hermit and don’t really like to leave my house so making a run to Dairy Queen is kind of a burden. Much to my amazement, I can make this delightful little drink from the comfort of my own home. Imagine my excitement when I found this little gem of a recipe.

If you are capable of peeling an orange, you are capable of making this vitamin C packed drink for yourself. I’m telling you, it’s a glass of positivity that will warm your soul and cool your palate. Another awesome aspect about sipping on an Orange Julius is that you can mix it with a little splash of your favorite booze to make it a midday cocktail. FUN!
