Can You Count To 5? Then You Can Make This Salad

Ambrosia salad is something I used to have a lot when I was young, except it wasn’t called ambrosia at our house.

My mother and grandmother made it often, but they used to call it fruit salad or cream salad, instead of ambrosia. I don’t know where the name ambrosia came from but based on my quick online search, ambrosia salad recipes started appearing in American cookbooks towards the end of 1800’s.

Wow! I had no idea it was such an old dish! But it still never gets old (no pun intended) and I love making this salad for all kinds of parties, potlucks and family gatherings. It is a staple on our party menus, but I know some people consider this a summer BBQ dish.

It doesn’t really matter when you make this – it’s delicious year ’round and your guests are always going to love it! The best part is, you need an equal amount of five ingredients for this, so it is super easy to remember or tweak to your taste.

I can remember going to my great aunt’s house one year for Thanksgiving. She always made a wonderful spread… except for the cranberry salad.

That stuff had such a rough texture! There were carrots, nuts, cranberries, orange peels, and God only knows what else in that monstrosity. I always had to take a little bit of everything per my mother’s rules. I hid the cranberry salad under my turkey and I thought I could never eat a cranberry dish for Thanksgiving ever again, when I grow up.

Speed ahead about 20 years later and I came across such a wonderful cranberry recipe that I simply had to give it a try! While this is called cranberry salad, too, it’s really more of a dessert. This has all the good stuff squished together, and it has become my stand by and go back to recipe. A great way to end your Thanksgiving meal – or any meal, really! I can’t believe how much I enjoy this salad and it is a snap to make. You’ll want to make this yummy dessert year after year for the holidays!

These Are So Easy To Put Together!

My friend and I made these rolls last week for our church potluck. Neither of us had ever tried Hawaiian sweet rolls before, and the ingredient list made our eyes roll (pun intended!)

We thought it seemed a little crazy to add something we had been used to adding to desserts and cakes – however, my aunt had specifically told me this was the best recipe she had ever tried in her whole life. Since my aunt is the crazy bake lady and she makes the most delicious things from scratch, my friend and I simply had to trust her.

We added all the ingredients and carefully followed the instructions (which were super easy, by the way). The rolls came out so yummy! These Hawaiian sweet rolls are the perfect addition to any holiday table. Your friends and family are going to assume that you bought these rolls from the store because they are so ding dang good! I would highly recommend making a double batch – I guarantee they will be gone before you know it!

Who Else Wants To Eat This Every Day, Holiday Season Or Not?

I love making holiday desserts and I especially love cranberries. You see, not everyone in my family reciprocates my sentiments for the red, round, tart berries. So, in order to get my cranberry fix I have to compromise.

I can’t just serve them straight up cranberry sauce because they won’t eat it. The only way to get my loved ones to eat cranberry sauce is if i buy the overly sugary jellied kind from the grocery store. Not. Gonna. Happen. So, I stumbled upon Good Dinner Mom where I found this recipe for cranberry fluff and all was right with the world!

Tart, crunchy and sweet, this salad is more than just fluffy. It’s super easy to prepare and really packs a punch of flavor. What a great holiday side dish! Another thing I find great about this cranberry fluff salad is how pretty it is. Dare I say that is even girly looking with its pastel pink hue? Shhhh, don’t tell my 10-year-old son that or he will not eat this fluff haha!

Take The Easy Road To Success And Make This Awesome Dessert!

Now that I’m a mother myself, I realize that my mother really spoiled us when we were kids. She was a stay-at-home Mom, which I appreciate from the bottom of my heart, and she always had a meal prepared for us when we got home from school. No matter how busy her day was, there was always the main dish, sides, homemade bread – and, dessert!

Honestly, I don’t know how she did it. She made everything from scratch and on top of that, she worked from home. And no-one really expected a dessert every single day, but I guess she had set her own standards!

I must say she has always loved cooking and baking. But still, there’s no way I could ever do what she did back then – and I’m not even always making everything from scratch! I’m starting to think she had some kind of super powers. Or maybe she had a crock pot hidden somewhere! Because that’s how I make most of my favorite desserts these days, for example this delightful strawberry dump cake.
