I think this would make a great handmade gift for friends and family over the holidays!
The butter keeps for about 7-10 days, stored with the lid on in the refrigerator, so you could make it a few days ahead. But this is also so easy to make that you can do this last minute! The flavor combinations are endless… If you just want salted butter, you can add a pinch of salt to the cream. Or mix in some of your favorite herbs, when the butter is done. Or maybe garlic! Yum!
Ingredients
heavy whipping cream
Optional:
salt
cinnamon & sugar
dried or fresh (finely chopped) herbs
garlic
Instructions:
Pour the heavy whipping cream into a jar (that has a tight lid) and start shaking. Don’t overfill the jar. You’ll need “shaking room” so only fill it about half way. You can add as much whipping cream as you would like (as long as you leave room.) 1 cup of whipping cream will give you 1/2 cup of butter and about 1/2 cup of buttermilk.
One of our favorite things to put on toast is cinnamon and sugar butter. They sell it at the store but it kind of costs a lot. So I wondered if we could make out own. I took about 1/2 cup of our butter and added cinnamon and sugar to it. Viola! And it was even better than the kind we buy at the store.
