In fact, most of us have these ingredients on hand any day of the year, so why not make this bacon and green bean casserole more often?
Even though it’s considered a side dish, I certainly wouldn’t mind having this alone for dinner, any day of the week. This is also pretty simple to make so you don’t have to slave away in the kitchen for hours! Once you’ve made the soup mixture, you just add everything into a baking pan and sprinkle with the fried onions and some more bacon. Super delicious!
Ingredients
1.5 lb thick-cut bacon
1 stick Land O’ Lakes salted butter
1 yellow onion
1 tsp minced garlic
1 cup Gold Medal all-purpose flour
3 cups Swanson beef broth
2 cups Borden heavy cream
½ tsp fresh ground black pepper
1 tsp salt
3 lbs frozen French green beans (defrosted)
8 oz. your favorite shredded cheese blend
6 oz. French fried onions
Instructions:
Preheat oven to 375 degrees.
Cook and chop the bacon.
In a French oven or stock pot, melt butter over medium heat and add onions and garlic. Cook until onions are soft. Add flour and stir, the mixture will form a paste. Add beef broth, bring to a low boil and with a whisk, begin mixing until combined. Then add heavy cream, pepper and salt. Once combined add ¾ of the bacon pieces.
Combine the green beans and the bacon soup mixture. Stir until combined.
Pour mixture to a 9×13″ pan (sprayed with cooking spray). Top with shredded cheese and fried onions and remaining pieces of bacon. Top with tin foil.
Bake 45 minutes covered and 10 minutes uncovered.

Quick tip: Make sure you put tin foil over the casserole until the last few minutes of baking, so that the fried onions don’t burn.
