Pound cakes are one of my favorite desserts to indulge in.
I’m a major fan of dense cakes. I don’t really care for the whole light and fluffy thang. When I want to splurge on my diet I want to do it up royally with a nice slab of cake and ice cream. I think that a five flavor pound cake fits the bill nicely. This cake recipe is a vintage recipe that was passed down from one lady to another. If you’d like to learn more about the story just go to the next page as my friend Paula dishes on the details.
Pound cakes that look like bundt cakes are my favorite. I enjoy filling the middle with berries, pudding, or some sort of cream filling. However, I don’t always do this but it is a nice option to have available.

when you say to use 2 sticks of butter , What does that mean in cups ??
2 sticks of butter equal 1 cup, Joan.
Your wrong. Both sticks equals out to be a 1/2 cup
you are correct 2 sticks equeal 1 cup as each stick is a half cup. Not sure what that other lady was figuring.
1 stick of better equals 1/2 cup!
Since butter is sold by the pound, the easiest way to figure it is half a pound or two sticks from your one pound package.
What type of flour? Self rising or all purpose ?
Usually it is AP unless it specifically says SR
Q: Soak with glaze and let cool in pan for 10 minutes before turning out on a rack to cool.
It will end up upside down if you pour the glaze over it while it’s still in the pan. “Pour over cake after removing from oven.” Did I misunderstand the directions? I’ve been known to do that.
Do you mean turn it out on a cooling rack soon after removing it from oven and then pour the glaze over it?
I want the answer to this also! I was wondering if the glaze was poured over the cake in the pan. Please reply—I’m wanting to try this soon!
if i dont have shortening can i use vegetable oil instead. I have made this cake before and I did not recall using shortening…
Why don’t your recipes have a print option. So hard to bake “from my phone”!
The cake ingredients call for 3 cups of sugar?
Who has 6 extracts around their house?
I have been making this pound cake since 1982 and this is, hands down, thre ultimate cake! Never a crumb left
I have people who pay me to make this for them! ??
What is Kerry gold butter?
What is Kerry gold butter
Imported Irish butter. I buy the unsalted, but I’m suspecting salted is called for in this recipe. Kerrygold is about the most easily available supermarket find around. Far superior to American butters in most grocery stores.
This pound cake calls for shortening,a1/2 cup,and butter and eggs should be room temperature!!
It says to pour the glaze over the cake while STILL IN THE PAN. Once the glaze has set for about 10 minutes, invert the cake (remove from pan) onto a cooling rack. The glaze should have soaked well into the hot cake in ten minutes, so you won’t lose any of it when removing the cake from the pan.
Should the flour be sifted. Before adding to the mixture? Or just add straight from the measuring cup. I haven’t made a pound cake before. It sounds festive
