My parents always used to eat salisbury steaks. I never really understood the appeal. Back then, my mom would make us kids “meatballs” instead of the steaks. Those were so much better, right? Well, little did I know, that craft little mother of mine was giving me the same exact thing that they were eating, just in a smaller size. Who does that? Well, I do now. Haha! I have a terrible time getting my kids to eat any sort of protein unless it’s peanut butter, and we can’t have pb and js every night, much to their confusion. They would be perfectly content with that. I want to expand their pallets though. Show them how to appreciate food. That’s when the salisbury steak idea came back to me. I remembered my mom’s trick so figured I would give it a try.
I made a recipe just like this one from All Recipes, only saved some of the meat and rolled it into smaller balls. Just like I did so many years ago, they fell for the trick and gobbled it right up.
My husband and I totally loved the full size versions of these, and maybe some day the kids will appreciate it too. For now, this works, and I’m going to stick with it.
