Growing up in a Mennonite community in Michigan we always had these things called “whoopie pies” at church functions and potlucks. They were basically an individual cake that had sugary cream sandwiches between two halves. The ladies that made them would always wrap them up in plastic wrap and place them into a basket for everyone to grab. I loved them, but of course, I was only allowed to have one.
After getting married and moving to Pennsylvania, where my husband is from, he informed me that those whoopie pie were called “gobs” around here. Apparently, the Amish and Mennonite have different names for these amazingly sweet treats. I don’t care what they are called just as long as I get one! Anyway, this recipe is for an actual whoopie pie bundt cake and it is fabulous. Or would it be called a gob cake?
