I have a lot of overseas friend. Most of them I found through social networking sites. I used to be a digital marketer, which is why social media is a huge part of my life. Now every now and then, one of these friends will contact me and tell me that they have plans on visiting the country and therefore visiting me. That’s totally fine with me! It’s just that some of them truly didn’t know the word, “inform”. It had happened once or twice before. An overseas friend would suddenly tweet me and say, “Am here at the airport! Pick me up!” along with a selfie that proved that he or she was indeed at the airport.
A couple of months ago, Diana, my friend from Canada, did just that to me. I just finished preparing my crockpot beef that morning when I received her message.
I was still in my pajamas because it was a weekend. I didn’t even have the time to get dressed. I simply put on my jacket since it was cold and drove straight to the airport, which was a couple of hours away from where I lived.
She wanted home cooked meal so we didn’t get take-out on the way home. I was almost panicking until I remembered I have my crockpot beef waiting for us! We had a warm home cooked meal that night. Thank goodness for crockpots!

Quick Tip: Add the flour-based roux and kicked up the heat in the last hour to thicken up the sauce a bit.
