I remember when I dropped my oldest child off at his first day of school. I put on a brave face and acted so excited for him as I walked him to his classroom. I could tell that he was nervous, and honestly I was too, but I wasn’t going to let him know that. So, when he found his desk, emptied his book bag, and appeared to be ready to start his day, I made my exit. He waved to me at the door and I waved back. The second I got to my car, I started bawling like a newborn baby. I couldn’t believe all of the emotions that hit me in that moment. I couldn’t control myself. I contemplated sitting in the parking lot until he got done, but then I put myself together and started my own day.
When he came home from school that day, it felt like he had been gone for a week. I couldn’t stop hugging and kissing him, and he couldn’t stop talking about is day. Then, I went into his backpack to find the dreaded snack paper in there. He had to bring snack the very next day!
Thankfully, I had spent some time on Just A Pinch that day while he was gone, so I was armed with this tasty cookie recipe. The second day was easier for both of us. He told me he made a lot of new friends that second day, probably because he passed out these delicious cookies!
