I was excited to find this recipe for caraway and dill buttermilk biscuits. I love fresh dill – I add it to all kinds of things. And I actually have a dill biscuit recipe that I use sometimes, but it’s a little more labor intensive than this one and having tried both now, I like this taste of these biscuits a lot more. The caraway adds something that was missing.
If you’re not familiar with the taste of caraway, it can be tricky to describe. Dill and caraway are both in the Apiaceae family of plants (which is also referred to as the Parsley or Carrot family), which also includes other aromatic herbs like fennel, celery, anise, coriander and cumin. Caraway is most comparable to anise, which is what gives black licorice its flavor. Don’t worry though – That does not mean that these biscuits taste like licorice.
